Hi,
I just picked up an '06 V70R from Colorado and noticed some reddish-brown spots of what looks like corrosion on the chrome-colored emblems in the back and the chrome-colored Volvo emblem on the grille. I tried rubbing compound, but it still looks the same. Any suggestions as what to do?
Thanks.
Liz

Unfortunately, the spots you are describing are a result of magnesium chloride. Our DOT uses this de-icer instead of salt and it has several negative side-effects. As far as I know, there is no remedy other than replacing the chrome colored trim pieces.
Hopefully, others can chime in and suggest other proven solutions. Good luck.
JH
Ouch! Any other things I should look out for? I'm already looking at replacing the headlamps because of the million pits!

It might help to take a hair dryer and heat up the adhesive for a couple minutes. After you get them off rub some type of adhesive remover (goo gone, 3M, etc.) to get the adhesive residue off. Once the paint is clean you can either leave it like that for a nice clean look, or buy new emblems and reapply.

Re: (I Roll)

Yea the mehod he described is right, heat them up slightly with a hairdryer and use fishing line to remove the badges. the glue left over isnt easy to get off, but heat it up again and you should be able to rub it off.
I took off all emblems except for the R on the trunk, looks very clean IMO.
Headlamps are rediculously exspensive. you can just buy replacement glass from viva but its not the easiest job to replace them.
Welcome to SS

You can also use WD-40 to loosen the emblem glue for a couple of minutes (it does not hurt the paint), then use the dental floss to remove them. Wipe off the WD-40 and use a little car wax over the area and, Voila!...It's like they were never there. The only badge on my tailgate is the R.

If you still want to do it, go for the Euro lamps. It is actually possible to get them for a bit less than the cost of the US lamps.
