I just got done re-installing my fron tweeters in my 850 Turbo. In the first install I used .060" 304 Stainless Steel Plate. I used the OEM front dash speaker to make a template in which I then cut the stainless to match. The install worked ok, but it did rattle when going over bumps. Also, in direct sunlight the reflection could be seen. Anyhow, the speakers I am using are Polk Audio EXII series component set EX5250. They are a set of 5.25 woffer and 1" tweeter along with a crossover for each side. The woffers went into the doors with little effort. I was able to use 2 of the 4 factory holes. The other two I drilled and used the hardware included with the Polks. This is where the cool part came in, when it was time to re-do the dash speakers, I was able to remove the paper cone, coil, and capacitor out of the OEM plastic frame. (BTW, I never did find the magnet that fell off of both OEM speakers.) I then cut a hole in the OEM speaker housing where the paper cone was, and proceeded to flush mount the tweeter in the pocket. I then angled the speakers towards the sweet spot of the car, finally I epoxied 'em in place. While waiting for the epoxy to cure I was looking for the lost magnets from the dash speakers, when I realised that the Polk x-overs would fit in under the front dash speakers. Damn, that made me happy! Less wires to run through the car. I simply soldered 16ga speaker wire to the OEM connector (On the speaker side of the assembly, that is.) Then I ran the signal from the factory connector to the input side of the X-over. Then I ran the tweeter output to the tweeter, and then to the woffer in the door respectively. By placing 3M double sided adhesive tape to the bottom of the X-overs, and removal of the Polk x-over covers, I was able to place them on the surfaces below the dash speaker. Now the nice part is, the whole package is completely hidden, the x-overs are in a great location, and I can still use the factory wires with an additional amp in the futre. I think that the only drawback is the fact that the front OEM dash speakers were gutted and completely ruined. That means if I ever sell this car, God forbid, that the Polks will have to stay. Just thought that I would share my excitement with everyone. Sorry for the long post, but I tink that it was worth it.
Prospero
