Yesterday my wife was out running errands in our 2004 C70 with the top down. When she got home, the top wouldn't go up. The windows drop and you can hear some clicking, but the well cover won't go up so that's where everything stops. I took it to the local Volvo dealer this morning for diagnosis and to get the top up. The did get it up, but said they really don't know what's wrong. On the repair ticket, they listed as possibilities:
Latch motor, est. $892.28 OR
Convertible Top Control Module, est. $2250.24
To add to my frustration, they made no promises that either would actually fix the problem. The service writer suggested that the car isn't worth the cost of the repairs. However, I'm not sure I could give away a convertible with a non-operative soft top.
I'm just getting started on this, but can anyone point me to some resources to check out regarding the top issues? I'd also really rather not pay for the dealer techs to make guesses about fixing it.
