Hey, I'm about to put on a new exhaust, and after reading a particular case where someone put on a new exhaust, they ran into the problem where their turbo had the conical housing, present on the 94 and 95's I think. Anyways, I have a 94, and with this conical housing, can I still put on my aftermarket downpipe? Or am I going to have to find a straight housing for the turbo?
This is what I'm talking about. Conical on the left, straight on the right.

I was thinking of putting in a seal between the housing and the new downpipe and then throwing some washers on the bolts to even out the height difference so the downpipe still has something to tighten against.
Please let me know what you think. I was planning on doing this this weekend, but now I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
Thank you.
I don't think I really understand this thread. Do you have a straight flange DP or a conical DP? You can't switch between the two, the studs don't even line up.
Use the straight flange and get a straight flange DP. Flows better, quicker spool etc.

I looked at the new DP and it is straight, so if the DP is straight, then it won't even line up with the bolts on the conical housing?

No.
Why would you want to reuse the conical when it looks like you have a straight flange in your possession?

That's not mine, it was a picture I found. I was asking some other people about it, and a lot of them seemed like I didn't know what I was talking about, so I figured I would just post a pic of the difference just in case.

Does anyone have or know where I could get a straight housing?

Cherry turbos. Ask for Herb, he's a really nice guy to work with.
Or a much easier way, call up wreckers. Any T5 or GLT from '96-'98 had straight flange turbos. There are other years, but those are the years I'm sure of.
