Volvo will present two concept cars on the first day of the Detroit Motor Show in January 2001. The first one is called SCC (Safety concept car) and it shows some new great safety features and ideas (for example a sensor that registrates heartbeats inside the car and warns the owner of the car before entering of a hijacker inside the car - no joke, that's true, but it's only one of the features). At http://media.volvocars.com you can already have a look at that car. There are three pics in the photo section.

The second concept car is called ACC. But Volvo is not going to reveal any details on this car before January 2001. Maybe it's a study of the outcoming SUV.

ACC? Could this be the Activity Concept Car? Sounds good to me! Here are some newer pictures of the SCC (Safety Concept Car). Check out the 4-point seat belts. The front design is different than the back design. The one in the front is rally and racing driver style. The one in the back is criss cross style

Volvo built in the two types of 4-point seat belts, because they want to check out, which system is better and more comfortable.
As far as I understood it, they will start a kind of survey on the Detroit Motor Show.

Hey, Paul Grimes and I will be at the Detroit show so we'll be providing coverage.

Here's my theory BTW, I've heard from a source that Volvo is launching an SUV hybrid spring of 2002 into production, which means a concept could be an ACC at Detroit this year. An SUV makes the most sense to be shown here in the USA, and Detroit 2002 is too close to production. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it until January. We'll see.

George,

I hope that what you say comes to realization. My friend who is a Volvo sales manager told me a little something about the new SUV hybrid. A VCNA representative told him that Volvo is not planning on coming to the SUV party late like Acura did with the MDX. They are planning on opening up a new type of SUV segment. I am not sure how they plan on doing this though. He said that the new Volvo SUV hybrid is going to be a true 7-seater. It will have cab-forward engineering, having lots of cargo room and passenger space unlike the BMW X5. Also, it is not going to be a jacked up S80. It will also feature an advanced AWD system. I am thinking that this must be Haldex AWD from the S60 PCC.

You guys sure are lucky, I wish that I could go to the NAIAS! I hope to see some great pictures of the ACC! Whatever it may be!

I did a little research. ACC is pretty unofficially confirmed to be the SUV. You heard more than I did, but I also heard the true 7-seater thing. I'm trying to figure out what platform it'll be. Explorer is too truck like, Escape is to downmarket. If what they told you about the awd system is true, I'd bet Haldex on the 60/70/80 platform derivative, but much more SUV oriented than the XC.
