Color advice for 14 R-D--Electric Silver vs. Savile Gray

Hi all,

Looking to order a 2014 S60 R-D soon. Have the options and picked out, but a few reservations on the color:

Love the Electric Silver, the only thing I don't like is that the mirrors and rear diffuser are painted silver (but not the same color silver as the body.) Has this been an issue for anyone? Looks like poor paint match. Has anyone painted the rear diffuser another color because of this?

Therefore Savile Gray is on the list. Any comments about this color would be great!

Thanks!

My brother has an RD in Saville Grey and it looks great and looks clean all the time. My parents have an Electric Silver XC60RD and it looks great but the silk metal mirror caps, grill surround (2014 don't have this issue), side and rear skirt get a little lost in the color because they are two different silver colors. Good part about the S60RD is that the rear skirt has a darker silver (Ironmark is the name I believe) trimming but the mirror caps and window trimming will all be silk metal.

MY vote is for the Saville Grey as that was in my top 3 colors when picking the RD; wish Rebel Blue was available in 2012 or else I would have picked that.

How about Crystal White Pearl? I think it is going to be a dynamite color for the MY14 S60 R-design.

is that anything like the Lexus pearl white?

I have a 2012 T5 in Savile Gray. I am pleased with the color choice and how it matches with the Beige/Black interior. I was never a fan of the Electric Silver. It seemed like it had a little blueish tint to it.

One thing to note about about Electric Silver is that the hue will shift depending upon the lighting.

On overcast days, it's more dark gray. When it's bright, it's a luminous silver.

Volvo does not offer a pearl white. For 2013 you could get Cosmic White by doing OSD only. I've seen the 2014 OSD pricing, no more Cosmic White, replaced with Seashell (same color on the SUVs). I have Saville Gray. Love the color, very rich looking and a good match to the car's lines. And have been very pleased at how well it stays clean.

For MY14, yes, we do offer a pear white color. See my post above.

Silver. My wife's S60 is silver with dark painted rims and tinted windows looks great. Also silver because it hides dirt better than the darker color. I have a Blue XC60 T6 and it looks dirty the morning after I wash it.

Savile grey is rather a boring color. Electric silver sparkles more. However, the issue with two different tones is something to worry about. Respray the specific parts?

My S60 D5 R-Design is Saville. The lady chose the color (actually the brand and almost the whole car, including R-D, leaving me with the choice of engine and other equipment / extras). I would agree (the real alternative was the new BMW 3-series, brand which we both find too vulgar). But I could have gone for the red. What I can say about the Saville is that it's a nice discrete and executive-ish color, which blends at best with the R-Design aesthetic. The downside is that the rear bumper get's dirty on the morning following a wash. Specially if the car sleeps outside...
I've seen pictures of the MY14 which render the black color as a more preferable choice in R-Design fashion. Delivers a 'muscled' appearance. Just my 2 cents, on an entirely subjective matter.

Just wanted to give an update. I saw most of the colors over the weekend and here are my thoughts:

Passion Red- loud and great for a brochure, but may get tired of the color after a few years
Rebel Blue- same as above, and a few of my friends called it feminine
Black Sapphire- had two black cars. too difficult to keep clean/shows scratches, although looks the best IMO
Electric Silver- does not match silver accessories on car. this would really bug me
Savile Grey- too understated

That leaves Ice White. I'm 22 and about the order the car as a graduation present to myself. I think white looks young and sharp and will age nicely.

Thanks for all of the opinions!

Are you ordering a 2014 and looking at 2013's?

IMO, Electric Silver makes the S60 look a bit bulky, and I also don't really like the way the things don't match - but when I have seen them I have thought to myself "it still looks nice."

There is also another new color to consider - Power Blue. This might help you if you're going to order a 2014.

http://www.volvocars.com/se/footer/Pages/VDS.aspx

1. Click the S60.
2. Click the S60 again.
3. Click the T6 AWD engine option.
4. Click "Utrustningsniva".
5. Click R-Design.

Under Exterior...

Farg = Color
Falgar = Wheels (18"s and 19"s appear to be different colors)
Ovrigt = Black Mirror Cap Option + Side Skirts
2014 Side Skirts are also under styling

Also keep in mind that for 2014 you could get the Polestar Tune + Sport Suspension and use the regular T6 AWD body without losing any much performance if you prefer the regular styling. It would also make it a little more stealth, but maybe a little pricier as well.

I've checked out that link before. The Swedish "build your S60" tool is so much more useful than the one we have in the US, especially when viewing accessories. Not sure why we don't have it on the US website.

Not a fan of Power Blue. If Caspian Blue was offered I would strongly consider it.

I saw the new 19s at the NY Auto Show, and yes, the paint is darker. I think the contrast will look excellent on white. Maybe a window tint too.

And yes, ordering a 2014 through the Costco program.

For those interested in what Ice White looks like on the 2014 RDs with 19s:

I have a '12 S60 R-Design in saville grey and I am glad I went with it (dealer was willing to give me even more off for two alternate color options but I stuck with my choice and am glad I did).
The saville gray is a perfect color for the R-Design IMHO because the contrasting silver (mirror covers, portions of R-D rims and R-D exclusive silver window trim) and grey (remaining portions of R-D rims) go really well together - elegant yet still relatively sporty.

It was my #1 color choice.

Black - Black typically shows stone chips too easily, although I also think my '09 C70 paint was not as high quality as the R-D's paint (could also be partially / mostly due to metallic vs. non-metallic etc.) - had an '09 C70 convertible before my R-D) and saville grey is very dark anyway.

Red - Felt red was for a younger me and also attracts too much attention from LEO (law enforcement officers).

Silver (electric or other) - I know you love it, so I will let that suffice (it wasn't on my personal list of favorite colors).

Ice White - I saw one in white and was surprised at how good it looked from the front. From the rear, however, saville grey is nicer due to overall color combos and color of rear diffuser etc.

Rebel Blue - A unique (limited, although I guess so is saville grey) and eye-grabbing color. I might have had a hard time deciding beween rebel blue and saville grey if I had to do it again.

Ice white probably has an edge over saville grey IF you're onlky considering the front view; otherwise I prefer saville grey overall (viewed from the back too).

Personally, I want to see Power Blue in person and on the R-Design before it's time to order. It's so pretty but I'm not sure it fits the aggressive personality I want the car to have.

My '12 T5 was Ice White and I liked the color very much. The one I have now is electric silver and it was between that and savile gray. I have always wanted electric silver from all the way back to '06 when it first appeared on the P2 R so I got electric silver, though in hindsight I think that color looks better on a wagon.

Ice white is far more beautiful than cosmic white.

Alltough you will need some black on the car (wheels, windows), to make it really sporty.

I have a sapphire black one. Love the color, when it's clean. Car was washed this sunday, today we had some showers, and with the dust of the last days, the car looks likje it competed in the acropolis-rally :D.

Now is that a typo or is actually a pear white?

I'm not trying to go typo police nag on you, I swear!

I think you guys are right about the black caps and black spoiler. Just configuring the V60 again and realizing that it has the black piece below the window AND the roof rails to add more black accent. I can't wait for this thing to get here. =D

Phew.

I actually found photos in what I believe is that color and realized it's actually a matte bright white. I'm pretty excited to see it in person if it is indeed this same color.

Color is such a personal choice that I really can´t say anything. My V60 is Saville Grey, it is a very "executive" older person color indeed, but I think it does look very good and is adequate for this car. Red looks awesome, and I also like Rebel Blue, those colors really make the 60s stand out and look sporty.

Colors that I don´t like are the Gold and white. But again color is such a personal choice there is no right or wrong. Pick the one YOU like.

If you are young and want a sporty youthful look, I´d definitely go for red or Rebel with black wheels.
