I know that Weapon R V2 has an intake for the 850 series. I own it, but is that a "cold=air" system? My friend was telling me a cold-air intake could add 20HP, I think mine might have added 5-8.
Thanks in advance

If you already know...then you should also know the one that r1cey Weapon crap kit for 850 is just the cone, right?
Then, you can pretty much just get any cone out there in the market. I just don't like their silly name and crapy foam filter they have.
There is no cold-air intake for volvo.
Man, I already have a K&N Cone filter on it... that was the first piece of crap I switched out.
That sucks how they don't make a cold-air system.

I have a semi-cold air intake on my 850R. It uses the original air tube from on top of the radiator, which connects into the box. The box is sealed on the left and right and bottom of the filter. The top is sealed when the hood is closed. The kit takes place of the original airbox and snaps into the same holders where the stock airbox mounts. I doubt it give 20hp maybe 5-8, but it did improve throttle and turbo response, which makes it feel like it added more than 5-8hp
Rich S.
97 BSR S3 850R

Soon you are going to see Civic tail lights on a Volvo, too.
Yup, there's pretty much nothing in the market for our car, you would just have to custom make one.

I like my hood as it is... I'll keep it in one piece... with NO holes in it. Jesse, thanks for the idea.
As for the Air Scoop on the hood like the WRX's, it's a "new" idea... it just gives it too much of a r1cey look.
Rich, where did you get that kit? Or did you just make it yourself. I'd be interested in purchasing one...
Thanks

Try doing a search at www.yahoo.co.uk (England). Or try the http://www.needforspeed.co.uk . They have some Volvo stuff, even exhausts, but I don't know about shipping. Open up a currency converter like www.oanda.com in a second window for quick cost checks.

I actually dyno'd my car with a weapon air filter fitted to my car, no cold air intake and the peak power was 3hp lower than the standard intake with paper filter. I assume this was down to hot air being sucked in/or slight differences that you get between dyno runs but there was no improvement in power !!
Throttle response and turbo lag was markedly improved due to the less restrictive filter medium and people often translate this to higher power on the 'butt' dyno.
My advice to anyone is to just install a replacement aftermarket panel filter in standard airbox; this again gave no improvement in peak power but more importantly gave no losses and a better throttle response.
Unless you are prepared to develope a brilliant intake system as Kai has done on his C70 then stick with standard air box: its good enough for 400+hp and there are many other restricting factors on power that your money would be better spent on.
As an aside I'm thinking of trying an intercooler spray as a way of reducing intake charge tempreatures.
Manufacturers of filters say that it will give you a 10% or so increase in power, this does not necessarily mean peak power but could indicate 'area under the power curve'with peak power being reduced or where the filter element is restricting peak horse power it might do so- this is not the case in the Volvo.

One more thing...this is what a supra spoiler looks like. Superbird style except more of a round arch.

Man, last generation supra's are nice enough looking stock. Not to mention fast enough... I wouldn't mess with the tt model, I'd get in enough trouble with that thing as it is.
It's too bad that no one makes a cold-air intake for these cars... what do you all think is the best cheap modification? I've already relocated the horns, and adjusted the wastegate, it's just that I'm low on $, and I need to beat my buddy's GTI... and it's not happening unless I put a performance exhaust on... which will cost some nice $, but I'm trying to get my car from 0 to 60 in 5.9, which it is now, to about 5.7 or 5.6... and I NEED a little more power, it's soooooo annoying.
Thanks guys

Man, I figured that if I posted in the 800 Series, it would be 850 related... aiight, dats kewl. Well, the mods are for the 850. That car's pretty modded as it is, I'm just trying to squeeze every last bit of power out of her. The GTI is an APR modified 1.8T. It has their Stage III Turbocharged kit on it, linked to a 5-speed manual tranny. It has about 290hp at the crank, and I think I have about 290. He's doing about 12.9 in the 1/4 mile. Eventually, I catch him, at around 90-100, then pass him, but the thing is he has me off the line, so I'm trying to figure out a way to tweak it.
