I just got the S60 R back from the OSD trip a few days ago and I’ve been driving it like a maniac. I drove it tonight from San Diego to Bakersfield. The car drives great on the freeway. I raced a 300ZX and a Mercedes with no problems. I just love how it pulls away from everything at 70mph and above. <p>I almost got caught with my pants down at a light tonight. I took the car out tonight to cruise around town and noticed a car from behind trying to keep up. I stopped at a red light and I noticed the car just hanging back in the lane beside me...just keeping the car rolling. The light turned green and I noticed the car tried to take off on me with a good rolling start. I wasn’t even ready for him or thinking it was going to be a race, but I took off after him. I caught him by the time I ended 2nd and passed him in 3rd . I was throwing thru the shifts pretty quick trying not to get beat by this crappy car.<p>I noticed that my clutch tends to stick right after I throw the shift. Kind of like a suction cup releasing itself from a window. Is this normal? My past cars didn’t have this problem, but this might be a safety deal from Volvo. I was able to reproduce the clutch problem again and again when I’m on the car aggressively. <p>Do I need to have the dealer look at it? Or is this from the clutch getting to warm? What do the racers out there recommend as a RPM shift point? I’ll probably tone it down in another week as any new car owner, but I occasionally want to challenge another driver. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0"> <p><br>Bryan

Re: Clutch Sticking (KillerB)

Sounds like the clutch plate. Not that much of a gear head but i love my R and i just had to have mine replaced after some serious driving...seems from your description that its the same prob. The techies decieded to replace the whole clutch which i was fine with, see if you can get the same deal if thats what you want.

I'll take the car in after the holidays and have a tech look at it. I just remebered this morning that I took someone out to dinner the other night and the clutch stuck. A gave it a lot of gas and the car didn't move. I could smell smoke from engine compartment when I gave it to the valet driver. It might have glazed it pretty bad. I was trying to figure out all night how many times I've seen this when I remebered this.<p><br><TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD><i>Quote, originally posted by <b>"R" Kelly</b> »</i></TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"><p>You mean you out-accelerated a 300ZX and a Mercedes...no one ever races outside of the track. </TD></TR></TABLE><p>Heh...all the formalities. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/wink.gif" BORDER="0">
