I searched the threads with no sign of a previous post on this topic.

I don't like how high the clutch pedal is on my S60R at the point of engagement. Has anyone experimented with adjusting the pedal so one's foot is closer to the floor during shifts? My old Peugeot 405 (hey, stop snickering!!!) had a cable setup with adjustable locknuts under the battery bracket. I assume that the clutch in the Volvo is hydraulic and I know nothing about making adjustments, or if they are even possible.

The pedals are not very adjustable. I took the reverse strategy in my V50 by adding a block to limit the downward travel. It makes a big difference in feel. http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=40397

By limiting the clutch actuation how can you confirm that you are getting full engagement (aside from the obvious - care does not move while in gear and clutch depressed) and are you concerned about excessive wear?

Oh it's fully disengaged. On my car the clutch has a very distinct take-up and it's quite near the top, like the R (the systems are basically the same hardware).

I mention in my post that the biggest problem was the extra mile of pedal travel past this point. If it were not disengaging there would be stiffness into first or between gears, and there isn't any. So no, I'm not concerned at all about wear.

I've actually noticed a HUGE difference in clutch pedal engagement on the newer 06 models . . . almost as if Volvo were listening to us. My 05's pedal travel goes to Pluto, and the engagement is very high, and very quick (which, once you're accustomed to it, actually makes shifting quickly a little easier). The newer 06's, I've noticed, have shorter pedal travel, a MUCH lower engagement point, and the engagement is much more linear than the quick uptake in my 05.

Driving an 05 (and an 04, for that matter) can be a bit tricky, but the 06's are smooth.

If anyone figures out a good way of doing this, I would love to know. On my '98 S70T5, I just had a new clutch put in at about 138,000 miles and the engagement is as high or higher than my '05 R. It seems to be much higher than it was before the new clutch. I took it back to the dealer and they told me that it was not adjustable and that it is normal. I have driven standards all my life and find this high engagement point to be extreemly annoying, especially when starting out from an fairly steep incline.

This was discussed years ago but don't bother searching it's probably too buried. The concensus opinion seemed to be that there is no way to adjust the travel or engagement point on a hydraulic clutch.

The pedal stop has been used by some. Here's one designed for BMWs:

I suppose there is no such thing as an aftermarket clutch pedal arm that would sit at a different angle, so as to reduce the pedal travel and lower the height of the pedal at the point of engagement... ?

In a perfect world I suppose...
