So, ever since I first picked up the car there has been a slight "clicking" noise coming from the front of the car when going on the gas and when stepping off it. It can be heard best at slow speeds and when turning in a tight circle. It's not the classic CV joint noise, but rather a distinct "click".
Dropped it off at the dealer today and their initial reaction was that it's either the front axle seals (supposedly they got upgraded on later year cars), or the actual splines on the driveshaft that are worn.
Has anybody else experienced this?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Clicking noise in the front at low speeds (FastWgn)

Many of us have had this issue. I would recommend searching on "axle" or "clicking". The official fix is loctite but I ended up with new two loctites, new hubs, and eventually axle bolts.

Re: Clicking noise in the front at low speeds (MagoonR)

Thank you. Tried the search for either of those and found less than 5 references, of which two threads were releveant. The search function here isn't that great - guess I will switch to Google instead!
Feel better that's it's a common problem. The service guy said nothing about Loctite, though....
Did your problem go away in the end?
Is there a service bulletin number or sim I can refer to?

Loctite and hubs replaced.....didn't last. Pushed for the field tech to visit and ended up with the XC90 axle bolt fix whixh has held for a week or so and counting.

Can you tell me if these TSB are relevant to a V70 delivered in 02-05 (probably build around end '04)? Thanks.

The glue fix is for 2001-current while the XC90 bolts are for 2003-current since it was introduced in 2003. Nevertheless, the bolts are the answer instead of the glue.

Re: Clicking noise in the front at low speeds (MagoonR)

My dealer has recommended against the XC90 bolts as they (wel the rubber) block the water and dirt in the joint and cause grit to accumulate.
Anybody else has an opinion on this?
