I have a weird clicking noise going on all the time. If I let my foot off the gas it goes away.it seems to be getting louder and sometimes it sounds like there is 2 different noises both from up front just not sure where. Any suggestions or advice on what it could be or where to start would be greatly appreciated. If it was a wheel bearing would it make noise ?

While moving or stationary or both? Does it get faster or slower with increased RMP? Need more info man.

So only under load? Sounds like playing card being hit by bicycle spokes? If so I have that and have never figured it out. It's only under load, and have had it for 5 years so its not warning of catastrophic failure apparently.

I have the same issue with our XC90. Could it be the front end links? I watched ipd's video today on the P2 suspension and they said clicking noises like that could come from failing end links. Was thinking of getting a pair for the 90 to see if stops the baseball card-in-spoke noises.

I'll try front end links, but would really like to know what exactly it is. I know someone here has figured this out. Thanks for the ideas keep them coming

Search "axle ping". Most have fixed it wit xc90axle bolts with the rubber grommets on them.

I was debating this as well. If it happens once when your first touch the gas pedal and again if you let off it is probably axel ping. It will make 2 slightly diff tones depending on if you are just touching the gas or letting off.

I have an audio of it in another thread on here.

If it is all the time and constant it is not axel ping.

Yeah it's all the time unless I take my foot off the pedal. But then it starts back up. Sometimes silent for a block or so then starts again.

I really would like to hear some sound clips
Perhaps you should try to record the sounds so that we can better diagnose it. It could be a loose axle bolt in the center bore that's about to fall off the thread, same related issue with your axle is pretty much loose in there.

Do you have slotted rotors? If so, make sure your dust shield isn't rubbing on the rotor. It would cause it to "click".. Except it would be there all the time.

He said that the part where the 2 meet together is where the weld is breaking ? I'm confused now. How would buying a new drive shaft fix this ?

I've been searching all day and can't find anything about our driveshafts and clincking noises, actually any noises. The only things so far that I have read are,

1. End links
2.axle bolts
3. Dust or heat shields
I checked all the heat and dust shields tonight and nothing,so if there's any more ideas on this being driveshaft related please chime in.

Not sure if awd is working, how do I check? Should I just put it on jack stands and put it in drive ?

S60rfrank let's clarify please. Are you saying:
* 1 click per motion change, pedal down - click, pedal up - click .. (maybe axle ping and other suspension parts)
* continuous clicking that's proportional speed to the load, and goes away when you back off throttle (my problem, intake relation I think)
Either of those?
