So im at volvo, trying to get a $100 sw upgrade, that the same guy is now trying to say would cost $280. I said "no way". He said "oops, its $170". I said "no, its $100.50". He said, "fine, we can put that sw on for that price, its your choice to not have it re-scanned." So now that im getting my quoted price, sans Volvo verifying it because they want more money, once its plugged into Vida, to press the scan button b4 downloading the sw, im sitting in their waiting room... Choices: The Oprah magazine, Fitness, AARP mag, and a Real Simple mag. This is what Volvo is. Nothing more. They have an 06 silver R on the lot. Looking at Rs used to make my blood boil for good reasons, now looking at them makes my blood boil, for the reality of the ownership experience of this manufacturer. Oh well. Slogan should be: "Volvo has lost another customer for life!"

No improvement. Glad they tried to tell me it test drove fine, the Volvo dealership experience *must* be the worst. Never another Volvo product for this guy

Time to look around for a new dealership/indie shop. Every dealership is different; two around my area and like day and night compared to one another.

Indys tend to not have Vida, Closest dealership besides the one i was just at is notoriously bad. This one is supposed to be one of the better ones. Next closest after that notorious one is downtown chicago (30 miles + city traffic). Its actually just time to stop accomodating Volvos horrendous lack of concern for the quality of their products and customers. I know from experience with BMW, Chevy and VW - Volvo is the classic "we already sold you a car, we dont need you anymore" experience. Oh well, guess i will throw $ at it myself, theres really nothing the dealer can do in the way of troubleshooting/diagnosis. Very dissolusioned, as you can likely tell.

Re: Clear priorities at Volvo, and price gouging (JoeLvo)

What an incredible disappointment. My local dealer is good. Kundart in NJ is outstanding - you never know what you are going to get. I've found the same inconsistency with the BMW dealerships too. Mostly I hate them, regardless of manufacturer.

Too bad not everyone has a dealership like mine.....2 of the techs have worked at this Volvo dealership for 25+ years fixing only Volvos. Our family has 5 Volvos, and they have treated us well every time. I don't think it's totally fair to say ALL dealerships suck and this is Volvo's goal. Clearly there are many that work very hard towards customer satisfaction. I think you could find some other brands that have service just as bad, but it's not at every location.

My question was simple: "Do you have Vadis, and can you perform all of the same diagnoses/repairs that a Volvo dealership can?" Haven't gotten a call back yet. So, hopefully it's true, because I'd rather not ever have to deal with a dealership. The dealership I went to yesterday also has some very cool people, it seems. The guy I dealt with yesterday seemed like a cool guy, and I know of one other person there who is very cool. However, I'm done being told "you need a $300 tcv and this or that" when a novice such as myself has easily been able to rule out their "professional" diagnoses. It's just too expensive (~$130) to receive an obviously pathetic diagnosis, again. It's almost as if they have a flow-chart that tells them to replace "x" part, and thats all they can do as far as diagnosis (oh, and their flowcharts suck, too ). Ken's is definitely something I'm hoping for, as I know they're a small shop, but the quality of service once they have your car is probably very high. Thats the important thing for me, I care more about that then how quickly they return a phone-call.

You could just replace the radio buttons on the steering wheel and all will be fine...
