As some of you may know, I purchased a Cream Yellow T-5R estate yesterday in Red Bank, NJ! The happenstance how I found out about it is a pretty funny tale. I was re-reading an article from June 2017 that Doug DeMuro posted about T-5Rs, when I noticed a comment from a reader mentioning that he was thinking about selling his "original yellow T5R wagon." Now, at the time, this comment was posted almost a month ago so I figured it might be a dead end. After doing a little more internet sleuthing (possibly creepy), I happened to find the gentleman's business and home address. Sure enough, on Google Streetview was a CY T-5R estate in the driveway.

At this point, I sent an email to his business website inquiring, and sure enough I received a prompt response about how it was going to be for sale in the next month or two. After exchanging many emails and phone calls, we agreed on a fair price for both parties and I was on my way to Red Bank, NJ to pick it up with my dad. One hilarious coincidence was that I purchased my 2013 S60 daily driver at Red Bank Volvo almost 2 years ago, literally a couple blocks from this gentlemen's house. Something I had been lusting over for years was so close to me at one point!

This gentleman Laurence was the original owner, and was able to answer all questions about it's history. He mentioned reading an article in Popular Mechanics (I'll have to find this!) about a "yellow wagon that can seat five and do 155mph" and was instantly sold. From there, he went to his local dealer (Princeton Volvo) with his two daughters, test drove a black T-5R estate and looked at a CY T-5R sedan. He knew he needed that color but on a wagon and his dealer went to work trying to find one. They found only ONE remaining in their computer system and it was at Don Beyer in Virginia. The dealer then swapped the black T-5R estate for the yellow one and I believe Laurence purchased it on 4/15/95 according to the buyer's order. In one of the reviews the owner read, it mentioned the 17" Titan's were a bit of a harsh ride so he opted to go with the 16" no-cost option.

Included with the purchase was lots and lots of service records up until the present, all of the original paperwork he completed in purchasing the car, the original window sticker, the original and untouched Alcantara T-5R binder, a can of 607 spray paint, a spare SC-811, various brochures and promotional material, some old Volvo winter tires, and some OEM crossbars.

Overall, I'm super excited to own this rare beauty and get it back into exceptional condition. It made it back to Maine without any issues but it does have some mechanical gremlins to be addressed soon. Cosmetically, it isn't too bad and will clean up pretty well. I will be fully documenting everything I do and updating this thread regularly. For now, enjoy some pics from yesterday picking it up, some of the items that came with it, and also how I came to find it by internet sleuthing haha

That's currently a TBD item. The odometer stopped at 250,422 a few years ago. I will either look under the hood soon or have my technician plug it in to read it. Obviously not the lowest mileage example out there, but it's still in good shape and has plenty of records/service history

Oh my gosh, it’s gorgeous! The inside looks just like my 850R sedan. What model year is it? I look forward to following your restoration.

One owner car for 23 years is a really cool story. Miles are right there with JaredR's. About how many yellow wagons are accounted for at this point?

I love that yellow color. I sure wish I could get a new Volvo in that color.

When I’m ready to sell my 1996 850R, I hope it can go to somebody who will cherish it. My car is a one owner also and I have all of the things mentioned in this thread, original window sticker, can of paint, leather folder with manual, every single service, etc.

I have 12 with VINs and pictures, but I've been working with Jared and we have about 5-6 more that we know of and might have pics of, but just not VINs

Your so lucky! Congrats! I been keeping a eye out for ones over seas to bring across when the 25 year hits. And the pricing is sky rocketing closer and closer. So if you know of any one of those other yellow wagons owners willing to sell pm me. Lol

NICE FIND!

I like the story. When I purchased what Jared currently owns it wasn’t on the market either. I by chance made mention to my Indy mechanic one day about a yellow wagon I had seen a couple time in passing. He says “hey that’s Bill’s, I work on that for him”. I told him if he ever wants to sell it please have him call me. Bob called him right then and we made a deal two days Later.

A lot of the ones I know about are in the hands of enthusiasts. One or two of them I've seen in spotted threads and just happened to get the VINs from the license plates

Yeah that's how I think people are going to have to find these things: word of mouth, spotted threads, leaving notes, etc. My previous owner mentioned he had a list of people over the years that left notes or were interested

Haha funny you should mention the vanity plate. I was thinking pretty hard about this in the last 24 hours and Jared suggested "YV1LW58" which I thought was pretty funny, but ultimately I ended up going with "GUL"
