Would there be any interest in a custom built bull bar for their XC?
I have a friend who can bend anything and he is rather slow/hungry right now. We believe with some creative cad work, we can fabricate some bull bars from chrome molly. We are thinking that the diameter of the tube should stay close in size to that of the Yakima load bars. We've got a powder coating contact that can provide custom color solutions as well.
Any interest?
Griff

Re: Chrome Molly Bull Bars (Griff_33)

I'm going to tie into the mounting anchor points designed for the belly pan. Thinking of the bull bars as an exoskeleton for quick connect/disconnect of an alluminum belly pan for example. This will also provide the structural integrity that real protection up front requires.
Any thoughts? [email protected]
Thanks in advance,
Griff

Re: Chrome Molly Bull Bars (Griff_33)

New tail pipe section installed today. I can pass some pics if there is any interest.
Robert Fenter dba Robert's Custom Exhaust, 540-288-2232, http://www.robertscustomexhaust.com
is the owner/fabricator.
We looked at possible hard points for the bull bar application once the tail section was completed. We may have to hole saw some plastic under bumper to reach the hard points cleanly. More to follow.
Gone is the big exhaust box from the tail. In it's place is a shinny new 4" Magna Flow #10415 and a 3.5" rolled tip.
There was a customer at Robert's shop with last year's Charger SRT8 waiting for the lift and a custom 4" stainless dual set-up. He advised of never hearing a 5 pot sing quite like this custom tail section does. I think the word he used was "Sick" as Robert fired it up for his ritual test run...

Sorry for the delay Chris.
How is your calendar this morning? I'll buy breakfast in the middle somewhere. Mannassas might work.
I was supporting Draeger dive training in VA Beach last week.
Hit my mobile
Griff

Re: (Griff_33)

I'm looking on a bull bar too, but pricing and design will be my major concern about it. Let me know and let me see the final product.

Re: Bull Bars (Griff_33)

Randy Ellis Designs, Inc, RED, Inc
Designer of all things off-road, check out his web site: randyellisdesign.com
Is interested in looking at a XC wagon to work up a price. He needs a Phoenix area loaner for 24-48 hours.
Between VolvoXC,com and Swedespeed we've got ~8 folks interested to date. Can we get someone in Phoenix to stop by his shop to get this thread some traction? Do we know a dealer in the Phoenix area that would loan a XC70 for this effort? Randy would like to take some measurements and examine potential mounting locations.
Looking at his previous work, Randy and his crew are very good at bending and finishing. The "Sleekster" light bars are his baby. He has visited the Qpax web site for some ideas. If he can get a loaner and a number of units, he'll work with us.
Help a brother out here folks.
Thanks in advance,
Griff
Re: Bull Bars (Griff_33)

I've reached out to Sanderson Volvo of Phoenix to determine if they can help us out with a second generation XC70. They didn't have anything in their online inventory but you never know until you ask.
They are about 10 miles north of Randy's location just off I-17 (Black Canyon Freeway).
Let's cross our fingers fellas....

Re: Sanderson Volvo Is Number One...

Got a call from Sanderson Volvo this evening. Luis Hernandez, Parts Manager wondered if anyone had gotten back to me regarding my request for help. He had a few questions about Randy Ellis Designs and advised that Vince Jasperson, Shop Foreman has a personally owned '02 XC70 and that he would be willing to drop it by for Randy to take a look...
This just after asking the question, a cold call... These guys are super.

The boys out at Sanderson got really busy and the ball was fumbled. They are going to make their way over to Randy Ellis Design for the look see.
I'm headed out to Tucson on the 6th and will try to make it up to Phoenix for a visit and attempt to show our resolve for this project.
More to follow,
Griff
