I know that is a general question, but I have a 2005 260 R (with the body kit, black, 18" rims) and I heard about a chip that can be added to give me about 33 HP more, but what does that translate to in 0-60 time? Typical 0-60 time for an R is about 5.5 seconds +/- 0.1 Does a chip get me under or near 5.0?
I am thinking about trading my 260 R in for an M3 in a year or two.

stock is 13 lbs and IPD gets you 19 lbs. Powerchip gets you varying from 14-24 with constant spikes on the latest tune.

Re: (nikhsub1)

I have the stage2 from IPD (for GT models) The boost is higher than most think. I have recorded boost levels at 22-24psi contantly, and in every gear. And the spikes I have recorded are as high as 28.8psi The car pulls like a banshee and runs better than new. I have had this program for 2 weeks now.I LOVE IT! My stage2 is equivalant to your standard ecu tune for the manual tranny from IPD. 995.00 plus shipping to and from them equates to just under 1300.00 w/shipping included in that. 40-50.00 two times (empty box to and from your house) and 85-125.00 with the ecu in the box (from and to your house). I am now (with a GT) pulling mid to high 5's 0-60. That is over a one second improvement comapred to stock. (4 car lenghth 0-60 better) I hope this helps, Rick

Re: (Mash)

Very nice replies everyone!
Yes, I do have the 6MT.
I am new to this and some of the information you supplied went over my head, but I gathered that there is an IPD chip mod that seems to be pretty good? $1300 for this chip, is there an installation charge too or does this include installation?
Seriously, under 5? I know the M3 does 0-60 in 4.8, would it be in that neighborhood? Or even better?
Anything else as far as mods that makes this fun car even more fun to drive?
If I can get it down to that, I'll keep my volvo.
There is a member on here who's "buddy" has modded his exhaust, added a cold air intake, and a 3" downpipe and also installed the BSR and has posted graphs running below 5..
IPD or BSR are good for a manual transmission. Evolve as well, although some debate by some members there. BSR allows you to reflash the stock as it is a controller. IPD requires the removal of the ECU, and shipping out to Washington, then reinstall. Cannot re-flash to stock.

Actually IPD will flash the car back to stock if needed. This was a concern of mine prior to the ecu tune. They store my code(based on my vin#) prior to rewriting it. I would just have to pay for shipping there and back if I wanted the stock tune. Go to IPDUSA.com and do some reading. They have a very informative site for you to learn about what products they sell and the technical specifications of each product. You should talk to zigger here at this forum. He eats M3's on a daily basis.

Get their free catalogue and look at the difference in tunes. they did that(the reflashes) while the car was sitting on the dyno so the only software the car had time to "learn" was their competitors and they still came out ahead on peak power and a more linear power curve.

Re: (Johann)

autometer has a coll gauge that will give you a warning light when you hit a predetermined amount of boost and has a button so that you can recall the peak boost since last time you reset that feature. It is not as "pretty" as some of the others that have been mentioned but one of the most functional ones. An A/f would also be a worthy step for modded cars.

Chip, DP, and exhaust should put you over the top. With a chip alone, the only way you are going to hang with that car is if you kill your clutch launching if you don't break something right away.
