I want to buy some wind deflectors for my 06 s40 but the the deflectors will not work with "child safe windows." Can anyone clarify what exactly are child safe windows and if the 06 s40 came with child safe windows?

Re: Child Safe Windows? (smartxtai)

I've heard this term apply to windows in two ways. One refers to a window switch design that makes it difficult for a child to accidentally activate the roll-up function if, say, he is leaning out the window. The S40 has that switch design (you have to pull up, rather than push back or forth, to roll up the window; it's hard to do that accidentally). The second, which is probably what your deflectors are concerned with, refers to pinch protection, where a window that is rolling up will reverse and go back down if it detects an obstruction in its path. The S40 has pinch-protection windows.

The safety style switch is mandated by law now, helps the kiddos avoid strangling themselves in the windows.

I think the disclaimer regarding the deflectors is a liability thing rather than a functionality thing. The pinch sensors are designed to activate at a certain resistance level. That level may not be reached with little fingers getting stuck between the window and the deflector. It creates more of a shear than a crush.
