I need my car to pass DEQ, but the check engine light won't turn off. It's a 1996 850 turbo automatic. I ran a diagnostic, and it said I need to replace the air flow meter. So I did, but the damn light still comes on. I replaced the meter again yesterday, and took it to DEQ this morning, the light was off, but when i got there and was waiting in line at idle, the light turned back on and wouldn't go off. Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch.
Oke

Re: Check engine won't go off!!! (fcpgroton)

I replaced it both times with a used unit. Revved nicely, until the light turned on. Same code each time.
Oke

it is possible that both units were bad, but unlikely. Do you know of anyone with a running 850 you can borrow an MAF from to test?

Could there be an air leak along the pipes ? This could cause the air-flow reading to give errors in comparisson to the O2 sensor
