Hi Guys and Girl(s),
I recently bought an S70 and did 2 mods to the "engine" so far.
First one: I drilled a tiny hole in the Turbo Control Valve
Second: Got rid of the Air Filter box and installed an after market Cone Air intake with a small air breather( hose that sends air to the emission (something).. not quite sure actually). So i've been driving arround with that set up since Wednesday.
Last night, Check Engine light comes on.. Now I know it can be many things.. but have any of you experienced this a few days AFTER doing similar modifications?
Thanks.
MisterDeeds

Why would you drill a hole In the wastegate?
Just turn the rod up a turn or two if quicker and a bit more boost is what you're trying to accomplish
Also why don't you PULL the code first, BEFORE you ask us what's what.
The code could be completely unrelated

So what you are saying is that you likely got a code for a P0455 and a P0243 for all of your efforts. I don't quite understand where or what you are looking to do by drilling a hole in the TCV...but you could also get a fuel trim related CEL for that as well.

What inspired you to take a sharp spinning object to your TCV in the first place? Wouldn't a simple wastegate twist do it for ya?

What codes did you pull and was it worth the bang?
Cheers,
Prospero

Re: Check Engine Light and TCV Valce (Prospero)

**update***
I used the scanning tool this morning to check the DTC code(s). Turns out it was 1 code..(forgot which one, it is written down on a peace of paper at work). So basicly, it was my gas cap that was not properlly tighten. As basic as it is, I was used to (properlly) tighten my old gas cap on my 1992 Jetta.(Back then you did not have a CEL).
O.k as for drilling a hole in the TCV valve, I was told that instead of delaying the boost(and consequently having more later= more intensity), it was a safer alternative. FROM WHAT I AM TOLD. Now give me a chance, dont be a BMW type due to the fact that I did a miss hap.
Thank you Prospero for the effort he did to include some possible DTC codes for me.
Thanks
P.S. Anyone has any suggestion for boost gauges???? Cheers mate.

Re: Check Engine Light and TCV Valce (JRL)

JRL,
Thanks for the IPD tip, Im gonna order mine tomorow..
O.k as for the TCV thing.. I cant beleive no one has ever done this before. Pretty much is that you take a pair of plyers, the smallest drill bit you can find.. No joke the hole is THIS big ' * ' What happends is that you pull back the rubber, and then drill near the plastic connector, without going through the other side. Its simply pearced on one side. So onced its drilled, all you have to do is pull back the rubber to cover the hole entirelly or partially.. as u want.
The wastegauge IS effective, but I was cautionned to go with the Drilled TCV option.. In any case, I like it..

Also, you could just put a needle valve in-line to slow the air movement without the risk of air leaks...
Cheers, Prospero

What budget do you have?
You can spend as little as $49.95 and go up as much as $499.95.
Do you want electrical, mechanical, digital, ect?
There are so many choices...so you should decide what the budget is before moving forward...
Cheers,
Prospero

Re: Check Engine Light and TCV Valce (Prospero)

Well I went againts the main stream.. and got an IPD Boost gauge.. Got a good price so why not. Comes with the whole kit. That is:boost gauge, pod, tubing kit, vacuum cap, clamps. The look is not awsome, but it will do the trick. I DO NOT want to attrack attention.. Just get a reading. So what if it's white on black.
Should arrive here 1 month. 2 weeks for it to get to the border, then it's at customs, and then.. who knows.
Will post pics of gauge in when installed.
