Hey there,

I'm new to my S60R and it's a whole lot of car...and a whole lot of expensive maintenance. At 90,000 the dreaded Chassis Service light came on. I took it in to a Volvo specialist and he said the driver side strut was busted as well as the boot of its' axel. It makes sense to replace both front struts at the same time.

He quoted both struts to be $1,315 and the driver side axel as $508. I know the R needs a certain strut for the driving options so it's always going to be a jacked up price. And then labor for it all is $545. The only other slightly cheaper comparison I received was from a guy who said you could get another kind of axel for half price and it wasn't after-market. Does Volvo even make their own axels?

I think this seems fair. If you guys have any pearls of wisdom it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks all.

I'm new to R ownership as well, but the struts were one of the first things I looked up. If he is willing to let you bring in parts, you should be able to knock $400-500 off the parts price. I think dealers list is around $650, but I have seen them for around $400. Some mechcanics with there supplier agreements can only buy from certain places, and they certainly won't go to ebay or ipd or an online store for them. If you want to save a bit and have a week, you can look around and order a set. Don't know about the axle's though...
