Yes. Since you asked, you'll be surprised to learn the gas filler door doesn't lock either.

 

Thanks for quick reply. The gas filler door does actually lock, so thats why I thought charge port would also. Door looks identical to gas filler door.

 

Hello! I have a new Volvo XC60 T8 and noticed that charge port flap doesn't lock when the car is locked. When the car is parked anyone can open the charge port flap. Is this normal behavior?

😂 hope not. More worried about some idiot doing vandalism to the charge port. As there are people who also go around scrathing cars.

 

I think it very convenient for me. More than once wife forgot and I need to plug it with no key fob in my pocket.

 

Charge port doesn't lock. As there is no way to steal charge. No way to stop people from vandalizing your car even with a lock on that plastic door.

I asked direct from Volvo Cars and they said that it should lock when the car is locked. Guess I have to make a visit to service.

 

I think you’re missing the point — it does work correctly. It’s not designed to lock, ever.

 

The flap never locks. There's nothing behind it to steal (like with the gas flap). The cable, however, does lock after a moment. You have to unlock the car for the cable to unlock. The goal there is that someone cannot make off with your expensive charge cable, or start charging their car on a public charger that you've paid for.
