Can anyone confirm the exact OEM fluid type, grade used and quantity in the XC90 transmission and differential(conventional or synthetic and what viscosity). I will be swapping the oil for synthetic LUCAS products.

Thanks.

Re: Changing transmission and differential oil (marcvip99)

...the 3309 Mobil 1 ATF fluid is the way to go for a transmission fluid flush ...don't let the dealer charge you $20/qt instead of $4/qt for the same oil.

Re: Changing transmission and differential oil (marcvip99)

Does anyone know if, by "breaking into" the sealed Transmission fluid system, the warranty coverage (Volvo and/or Extended) is voided or alterer/changed as a result? Or, is it possible that the integrity of the warranty(ies) is maintained by going to the/a dealer to get this job done?

Re: Changing transmission and differential oil (hjself)

Replacing the transmission fluid is fully supported by Volvo and the tranny is not sealed. They do however only recommend using their fluid which I refused to since it is the same relabeled fluid as the Mobil 1 3309 ATF.

does the xc90 awd 5cyl have a front and rear differential plus a transmission required for oil changes or is the tranny shared by a diff? I am looking to change the differential fluid and need the oil type and viscosity rating, quantity etc

I currently use AMSOIL products in all 3 of our Volvos. It is all synthetic, and the ATF is 3309 rated which is also all synthetic. I run 0W-30 engine oil in all 3 as well (a 1998 S70 T5, 2001 S60 T5, and the 2005 XC90 V8). The ATF must be 3309 rated for warranty purposes. Our Volvo dealer actually did the tranny fluid flush using my fluids, as I showed them it had the 3309 rating.
