Hi all,
Anyone here change the oil in their S60s themselves? I'm having a hard time making a service appointment at my local dealership, so I'd like to try doing it myself.
I plan on using Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic and will pick up a new filter cartridge online. How hard is the procedure? (Read: is it any different than a standard automobile?) Any tips or tricks?
Thanks,
-ema

This might help. The procedure is similar to the S60. I'm waiting to see if FRAM will come out with a filter instead of dealing with the paper filter and housing set up. http://infoweb.magi.com/~cvolvo/Repair/B5254T.html

Hmmm. They don't seem to mention that you have to remove the plastic belly pan under the engine first. Now, I'm assuming that it's the same as on the 2001 V70 here.
You find all the bolts that hold the plastic belly pan on, then it's as straight forward as any oil chance you'll ever do. The filter just hangs off the front passenger corner of the engine. VERY handy. The only thing to watch for is when you work the filter element free, as soon as it lets go, oil gushes out for a second. Try wrapping the whole thing in a plastic bag first, and wiggle it from outside the bag. Works like a charm.
- Darell
