Guys, I took this afternoon to change my plugs and oil and add some fuel treatment. I took the car out and now have a horrible stuttering problem, I didn't even get a 1.5 blocks and I had a CEL flashing at me. It had gone away by the time I got home. kinda feels like a misfire... I'm wondering, could I have gotten a bad plug??

Make sure you did not pinch any wires when the cover was bolted down also check all the plugs make sure they are not cracked you can have new plugs that are cracked i would check the dtc's first and see what cyl it says is missing though first

Re: (Chilled Man)

All gaped within .028-.032 ... if one of them isn't gaped properly, would that cause such a horrific stutter??

That's the only thing that is boost related that I touched. Took that off and removed it twice, have done it before so I know all is well there. Fuel treatment was just an extra bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner (the really thin bottle) that I had lying around.

On and unrelated stuttering note:
The car had a slight stutter a few months back, I believe due to the K&N I was running. Took it off and brought the car to the dealer for reg maintenance and they changed the fuel filter and added Fire Ball fuel treatment (no special request, they just always do) car ran great after that. Well I put the K&N back on recently, the same stutter popped up. I took it off immediately, and the only thing I could think was maybe the fuel treatment cured it last time (since what are the chances of a fuel filter fouling in less than 6,000 miles?). That was my justification for doing it this time.

Probably just a bad plug if all was well with the last set that was
in there

The Flashing Check Engine Light means a misfire with possible catalyst damage.
I would double check to see if any coil connections weren't pinched and if any coil was unplugged, check that the connector terminals have not backed out.
Also make sure that all coils were put back in the correct cylinder. Its easy to mix up two if you do not label them.
I always mark each coil with a Sharpie and never unplug the coil connectors.
You could also pull each plug and check the gap just in case an electrode is grounded out when installing. Also check for any cracks in the porcelain. Some spark plug sockets are not ideal and can possibly crack the plug resulting in a short to ground on that plug.

Re: (Oceans60R)

Sounds like a plan. I was meticulous when I took the coils and the connectors out, labeling the coils numerically with white out and watching the placement of the connectors. I'm going to let the car sit tonight, back the plugs out, check them, and then replace with the old ones tomorrow. Thanks guys!

I don't think you would get a misfire within 1.5 blocks even if they were gapped + or- 0.005. If you have an ohmmeter, check to see if one of the plugs is shorted. Just pull coil and measure from top of plug to ground. Should be open or infinite.
Check all the connectors on the coils, and also make sure you did not disturb the connectors for the cam solenoids.

Put the stock filter back on. Make sure your MAF is working correctly.

What brand of plugs did you use? I have never found a set of plugs to work other than Volvo Factory, maybe just my bad luck but... If you used another brand... I would bet that is the problem... Volvo ECMs are picky, from my personal experiences.

when I wanted to do my plugs at my shop, we ordered them from our parts people. pulled one of my old ones, which looked like it was in good shape.
problem was they were the shorter version (T5 or S60 regular?). did you match them up to see if they were the same length? Im not sure if the car would run at all with the short plugs but I just returned the plugs and buttoned up with the old ones.

When you reinstall, gap ALL of them at .28 and be exact with them

Re: Changed my oil and plugs... Now I have a horrible stutter??? (MancUnited1)

most likely a bad sparkplug ... get a new set if it's gone get refund on the old set (not fixed you've a spare set for next interval) .... Fuel treatment sucks and do nothing (really, if it was THAT good petrol-companies would included such ingredient in their petrol and publish about it and boost up prices )
or...
sure you tourqed all plugs deep enough? (never oil/grease it!!!!!)
