Hey... I know we're all probably tired of the questions about which tune is the best, but here is another one. I currently am running the 91 Evolve software on my FWD 05, and the performance is better than before the tune, but I feel there is still some potential left in the engine. I have, as you can see in my signature, the typhoon intake, Evolve intercooler, 3" downpipe, Magnaflow 3" cat back and the IPD HDTCV.
Do you think it's worth spending the money on top of what I've already spent on the Evolve tune to get the BSR (or RICA if someone can convince me that it's worth 200 dollars more)? Will I feel that much of a difference going from one tune to another? Thanks for the help... I appreciate it

I'm not sure if this helps, but I've had problems with the BSR tune giving me a "reduced engine performance" error message when I drove like 40 mins up north from LA. I have not gone on such long road trips yet with the original, so as to isolate that it is indeed the BSR problem, but should have a road trip coming up in Aug when I will be driving without the BSR tune and see if it crops up again.

Re: (fone)

First thing you will have to do is send your edu back to evolve to get the evolve software erased... That will cost about 100 bux, then you will have to buy the rica stage 2 software which is around a grand, so you are looking at about 1100 dollars plus shipping... (not 200) you can't remap on top of other software... That will f your car up.
- here is an alternative, evolve/powerchip has software upgrades if you are running a 3 inch dp, so you can send your ecu in for about 100 bux and get that done... I have it and the performance is great, with just a dp and ecu I am making about 275 hp at the crank. Also powerchip just updated there software for the 2005 s40 in April so a lot of the power curve has been modified, and you might notice a difference just from that..

Re: (gmugolf)

Yeah I agree with gmugolf here. I mean I've got the BSR ... however don't think it would be that much better as to spend this money ..
hmm ... also have to concider that the BSR stage 3 requires 93 (or higher) octane , a lot of Calis tell me 91 is the highest you can get (other than race fuel)

Re: (gmugolf)

My car had the evolve tune, and it was removed by the dealer somehow (without permission) during the inspection when I was buying my car...gmugolf, is there any difference to your ecu that you can tell evolve/powerchips did? I'd be interested to see how my ecu differs...
If price isn't the main deciding factor, I have heard almost nothing but praise for RICA and ipd's softloader, and the remaps are either cheap or free, and they can be turned on and off as needed...

RICA remap through VIVA is $200.
RICA remap through EST is free.
IPD remap is about $400, as far as I know.

Re: (genjy)

there is no physical difference between pre-powerchip and now...... All in all if I could re-do my remap, I would probably go with Rica or ipd.... They are simply the best and ironicly the most expensive.... But the difference between evolves remap and rica is not worth 1100

Re: (jdsr917)

Im holding out to hear what IPD is going to update on their softloader. If they incorporate data logging and mapping software ill be sold. Ive been talking with lucky for awhile about it but i dunno if they will actually do it.
If not AEM it is

Re: (jdsr917)

I just got my remap from VIVA, can't tell you how trouble-free the process was. I chose VIVA because I heard it was the best, and after driving my car I would be very surprised if it is NOT the best. You barely notice the change under 2200-2400rpms which makes for higher gas mileage (29-30 going 75 hwy vs. 26-27), but above 2500 and especially above 3000 it is an entirely new car. Incredible. I sound like a VIVA salesman, and it may very well be the novelty of having just gotten the upgrade, but I think it is pretty sweet! Took about 15 minutes to update the ppc via usb on my laptop, then 6 minutes plugged into the ODBII.
PS: I had George as my VIVA rep, very very helpful.

Re: (ForceFed Motorsports)

You think we could all ambush Lucky with a mass petition to get mapping software added (if there is enough interest)? I know I'm in.
edit* They already offer data logging FYI.

Turbo Subaru and Mitsu Evolution guys have open-source tuning.
Buy a ~$200 cable and you can create your own map or download a map someone else or the community has developed.
Unfourtunately, the Volvo community doesn't have this kind of thing going on.

Sorry if I'm taking this thread in the wrong direction, but currently there's absolutely no way to do a completely custom tune?

IPD can do it for you... but get ready to pay $$$.
At least for the price of the Softloader + software, which is ~$1200.

Re: (genjy)

Okay, drove it down to powerchips today and I have to say, this new updated tune and downpipe file made the car unbelievable! I have never felt it like this before. I didn't think there would be that much of a difference, but there totally is. It was well worth the $100...

Re: (jdsr917)

Oh we definitely need an open source software. Problem is we would still need the tool to flash the ecu thus why it would be epic if IPD incorpurated it into their softloader.
My tuner and I use CROME pro for tuning hondas which is a free program developed by enthusiasts. My last tune for my integra cost me i think 250$ plus 2 hours of dyno tuning on top of the street tune. I think its ridiculous how much companies are charging for ecu flashes of basemaps
