It is essentially a small muffler, makes the car quieter. Removing it is purely a SOUND mod for the exhaust, nothing more. I suppose it may lighten the car up a bit by 5-10lbs or so too. No issues whatsoever. You can always keep the resonator and have it put back in if you wanted to.

What is it? Short answer is that it makes your car quieter.
Why do it? You want your car to be louder.
Issues? Your car is too loud or not loud enough.
-Eric

Re: Center Resonator MOD (Sue Esponte)

One of the reasons to remove the resonator is that in heavy rain or snow where the bottom of the resonator/exhaust gets rapidly cooled, the bottom of is cooled and shrinks a bit. This pushes the resonator into the driveshaft, scoring the driveshaft.
I removed the resonator for exactly this reason...I do not want the damage the $$ driveshaft.
The car is slighly noisier, but not so that is is more than barely noticeable.
