isn't there a way to find out what CEL code you have by pushing info or something?

nope. You can view active DTCs by pressing the read button and holding the rear foglight switch or something, but not CEL codes. Stop by autozone they'll check it for you for free, they have fancy Actron OBD readers

I work for volvo but our service was closed over the weekend. so I was curious. I thought i had heard something that you could before.

You can bring your car to autozone and they read it for free. I also think they loan you the OBD II reader for free.
