Okay so for the last few months of R ownership I have been plagued with this problem and I had narrowed it down to the crappy roads we have and ongoing road construction on I-80 toward San Fran.
The symptom, every time I drive on harsh roads, massive potholes, dips etc that cause sudden joints and rapid movement to the car the R throws a CEL. I then proceed to run the Soft loader diagnostics software to read the codes and I get
ECM-400C Fuel Tank System Leakage.
Now this happens on a full, half and even 3/4ths tank of fuel.
I'm not sure what is causing this.
So I was thinking of taking it in to the dealer (since I thought I read up here that there was a service bulletin for this issue), but I am concerned about my MTE software. Will they reflash the ECU and overwrite the soft loader or will it remain the same?
I plan on contacting IPD( after contacting the previous owner and he recommended this) to see if they have run into this issue before and the proper course of action to take.
Have any of you guys experience these symptoms and what did you do to rectify the issue?
