P0243 "The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for wastegate solenoid 'A'"
Kind of MAF-gone-bad symptoms but not near as bad. Car "hiccups" every now and then, maybe once every 3-4 days. Car does not stall, but acts like it wants to for just a second and then recovers.
Should I check wiring, or have I broken something?

I ASSUmed the hiccuping was due to the dealer powerwashing the engine bay. I had to change the plugs after that. The wires were rusted where they connect to the plugs on the inside so I changed the wires and cap and rotor yesterday (CEL has been on for 2 weeks). No hiccuping yet, but like I said, it's every 3-4 days.

Re: CEL driving me nuts, P0243 this time. (JimZ)

Engine is still sputtering every now and then. Never during acceleration, only at idle or a constant freeway speed. Wiring? Wastegate itself? MAF beginning to crap out? Other ideas?

Re: CEL driving me nuts, P0243 this time. (gdogg16)

I have had the same or similar problem for over a year now. Replaced all wires, rotor, cap, etc. for no cure. I did get cylinder misfire for each cylinder once, but the dealer was unable to tell what caused it. It has not happened again. When the hesitation occurs I have accelerated with the engine at 3000 RPMs and the problem seems to go away for a while. The most informed advice I have received so far is to just wait it out. Someday the item will fail and then I can fix it. Hopefully somebody has a better idea or cure.

Re: CEL driving me nuts, P0243 this time. (gdogg16)

Thanks regarding the 318is.
The car is a 98 V70 LPT. I can't really disconnect the MAF when the car hiccups, since it only does it for a second. When I do disconnect the MAF when the car is running, the car stalls.
I'm kind of at the "wait it out and see what breaks" period. The code that I have is the one of the two that most people have when the MAF fails, even though it's totally unrelated to the MAF. I'm wondering if my MAF is triggering it in some weird way.

Any more ideas before dumping money on a MAF? The code just doesn't make sense on it's own. Even if the wastegate was stuck open or closed it wouldn't affect the car the way it's being affected.

Did you replace the MAF? If so did that solve the problem? As I mentioned I have a similar problem and am trying to find the cure. Hopefully you have been successful.

Re: CEL driving me nuts, P0243 this time. (kwc)

I replaced the MAF and the problem is gone for now.
Like I said earlier, it has been intermittent, so I'm going to give it a few more days and if all is well, I'll have the CEL reset.
I'm 95% sure the MAF was the culprit. It seems they can either die a slow death, or go out violently.

Just checking. What's the current status with the new MAF. I hope you don't mind my asking. Did you install the new MAF yourself or have a dealer/indie do the work?
