Cd error

Hey,
Well i was driving my car and thought hey i havent played a cd in here yet. I went to play one and the deck says there is a cd error, sounds like its trying to spit the cd out but nothing is coming out. I tried stickin another cd in there and no luck. I took it to the dealer and they told me $640 to fix it, becasue they think there is a cd stuck in there. Any thoughts on what i might be able to do? You guys think its possible to hook up a external cd changer and play it off that or somethin?

Re: Cd error (CaseJ)

The HU-803 in my S60R lasted about 18 months before the "CD Error" message showed up. Mine was replaced under warranty, and the dealer had a hard time getting the car to recognize the new unit. It took about three months for Volvo to send the CDs back.
You might be able to find a used head unit for your S60 on E-bay. But since so much of the 60-series cars are software based, you'll probably have to take it to a dealer to get it to work.
There's no easy fix for this since you're out of warranty.

Of course you will have to take it to the dealer to have the software installed. Get it fixed by the right people.
I for one haven't gotten the CD Error message.. but I've gone through 3 units that had problems with the CDs skipping when going over bumps or reflectors in the road. Finally this one doesn't skip anymore.

CD Errors

Hi Everyone,
Im a first time poster. I have a 2004 S60awd with the HU805 system. Regarding the CD error issue. I am now on my third HU805 system. (Thank god for the 4yrs-50,000 mile warrenty)
It appears when your on long trips (gets hot where the cds are) the CD gets stuck and crashes the CD player. I have 48,000 miles on my car and expect the system to crash at some point.
At first I thought it was because I had a home burned cd, then it ate store bought cds.
According to Volvo, its a flaw in the 4 disc CD system and that the newer Volvos have a new sterio system. The auto feed system is the culprit according to them. I asked them to install the sirrus satellite compatable new system but they wouldn't.
Anyway other than this problem the car has been awesome.
This site rocks,
Tim

radio swap

I have swapped my stereo twice and haven't had to download anything. You probably won't either if you are going to be using the same model. I don't think you mentioned if it was a multi or single cd model. There is a pretty easy way to get the CD out if it is in the play position, but i'm not sure you specified if you actually got your cd stuck in there, so let me know.

Re: radio swap (CaseJ)

I don't know how to fix 'em myself, but I do know somebody who does alot of this. Not all of them are repairable though.
If you can give me a couple of days, I can probably scrounge you up a cheap used one!
Let me know if you want me to start digging.
