Has anyone attempted to install a CD changer in an 01 XC? Dealer wants $1,000 (which to me is exorbitant) and I was wondering if I bought the parts and did the install myself how difficult it would be.

As I understand it, I would have to purchase software from Volvo and the dealer would have to download it to the car's ECU so that the head unt would recognize it. This would still save me a couple of hundred dollars.

I do not know if this may apply for the XC but I know for the S40, the system they use is Alpine. So, as long as you get the adaptor that can go along with the Volvo and the Alpine, changer, it will work. The adaptor I looked around and it cost like $15-20 bucks.

Again, correct me if I am wrong guys but I got this info from someone who works at one of the service depts here. When I wanted to get a changer installed, they were gonna charge me $1100 and I said "no thanks!"
