ummm im pretty sure the negatives outweigh the positives in his post. dont remove it. get a downpipe and a catback to its not ghetto. i have never heard of anyone just cutting out the stock cat and replacing it down the line on the Rs.

Re:

No midi cat is required. You would only need a rear O2 spacer if you don't want the CEL. This is of course with going catless for off-road use only.

Quote, originally posted by SA-R »

were can i get a downpipe from ?

From Swedespeeds one and only Phuz
http://www.phuzzymotorsports.com/
From my experience (this is driving a cat less mustang gt previously with long tube headers). The R sounds great with a race cat Downpipe, and even then the smell can be pretty bad. I don't know what it is about it and not trying to change the subject but on a turbo car the smell just seems a lot worse anyone else notice that?

Big change in turbo spool-up and lots more turbo noise however.

Re: (adykes)

For spirited "Off-Road" driving, an OEM DP without the cat makes a phenominal difference. You can get a used/junk DP for cheap, then do the catalyst "removal" in short order. The turbo revs up quick and you will be able to pull all the way to the red-line, even in the heat of summer. You also need the O2 extender - with it, you will not get any codes. Easy swap to put the factory DP on, takes just about 30 minutes.

Re: (cmurphy2266)

Al Gore invented the catalytic converter.
Maybe turbo cars run a bit richer, or perhaps the A:F ratio varies with boost, thus attributing to a different odor than NA cars? Either way, catless cars do stink (from experience) and will not pass emissions testing (if you have it in your area).

I had a friend do some dyno comparisons, and the differences between an aftermarket downpipe (high flow CAT) vs. no CAT at all, or a "test pipe" were negligible.
