I know on most cars, if you cut the Cat, you can expect a slight performance gain. It is pretty common practice up here, as we do not have emissions testings. I have been considering having this done as I suspect it is towards the end of it's life.

Will the Volvo start throwing codes and messing up if the cat gets gutted? If so, is there anyway around it?

Put a "cheater" on the rear O2 - a spacer sleeve that moves the rear O2 out of the main exhaust stream thereby altering the reading between front & rear O2's - and as a result, no CEL for cat.

IPD's Rallitek division sells it for about 30bucks.

It works - I pass NYS inspection (uses OBII readiness - no codes = pass)

So that is all that is needed, to keep the car from giving a CEL?
That is not too bad then. I was half expecting to have to use a chip to pump the proper signal to the ECU.

WEll that will certainly be the cheapest HP upgrade so far

Thanks again,
Randy

Unless the CAT is bad you're not going to gain any hp that you will feel with that engine.
