It was nice to meet up with most of you, though I recognized some cars there whos owners I never had a chance to meet.
In general, they got probably around 45-50 cars there on Saturday. Sunday was smaller, but some other cars showed up that weren't there Saturday, including Yannis and some others. I shot cars both days and the gallery and article will be up this week.
For those with older cars, the swap meet was a Goldmine. I ended up picking up a set of steel wheel center caps that have proved tough to find. Another very cool vendor was nice enough to show me which circuit board on my instrument cluster was faulty, even though I didn't buy anything from him.
There was a good selection of used RWD wheels as well. We picked up a set of early 760 wheels (5 of them) that had a pretty rough finish but are generally straight. The best part of that is, I had the forethought Sunday morning to throw all my extra Volvo parts in the back of the car. The vendor selling the wheels (a DC area used Volvo parts business actually) was nice enough to trade even up for all of my parts, making the wheels effectively free and clearing out some of the Volvo crap from my house that my wife isn't very fond of.
The cars themselves were beautiful. It was very heavy on the older cars, though some newer ones did show up.

Hopefully, at another show we will have a bigger turnout and also get to meet more people (I still cannot believe that Sean drove 7 hrs. from Canada!!!).
Loved roaming around the French section (w/ all the older Citroens and 2CVs!!!) and the Italian section with the Fiats and a couple of Ferraris. One area that impressed me though was where the "other" Swedish cars were. A large number of Saabs displayed, most were in great shape despite the fact that quite a few had at least 110,000 miles or more. I was impressed with the cleanliness, how many had performance parts installed and also how many....manual transmissions were there! I was totally taken by surprise by the lack of BMWs! Are they too good for that show?
Overall, it was a nice day...not too far from my house (92 miles each way)...on the way back I tagged along a...(don't laugh!) Durango P/U who was really smoking (for a P/U) at 90 or so and he, myself and a Mistu Diamante made it back (to my exit on the PA Turnpike--Downingtown) is about 1 hr. and 10 minutes! Hehehe! Not bad!
See you guys around!
Yannis

Yup, all in all, it was a good show. Too bad most of the people who showed up at the Ocean Race GTG didn't participate the Carlisle show. It would have been an even bigger Volvo crowd if many of those around this area had shown up. This year Saab boys got their revenge, a year ago..we were still teasing how small of crowd they got, this year they almost had twice as many of the Volvo crowd we had last year. Oh wellz....at least we had a more diverse crowd than 20 same cars. That's just the sour grape Kai talking, tho...
It was definitely very nice to get a chance to hang out with all the Volvo friends; especially Sean(1Fastbox), who drove all the way down from Canada for this event. I wonder whatever happened to Frank from Eurosport Tuning...was really looking forward to meeting him again.
I guess I was the most excited one outta the whole crowd since I finally got a chance to show off the C70. I'm pretty happy that the car got so many good feedback and compliments. In a way, I was expecting less praise and have people come up and ask me bunch of silly questions. But most of the bystanders were able to recognize the work and effort the car has...I sure had a nice day out there.
Too bad I wasn't able to make it there for Sunday, forgot about previous engagement for Sunday brunch. I was looking forward to showing at the nearby import show...maybe next time.
Although we could of had much bigger crowd, there was 4 other different automotive related event in the region this past weekend...I would say it was a pretty decent turnout already. One of these days, though...we need to get all the Volvo fans organized like those Saab guys...and show them what's up.
Anyone else got the pictures developed and scanned yet? Can't wait to see some pictures here.
Terrence, I know you are lurking around...as soon as my friend got the pictures scanned, I will post the picture of the white 850 and the C70 parked side by side for the first time. It was very touching....

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. Todd rolled in about 5 minutes after Yannis. I think he brought his brother with him (there was a resemblence, but I can't remember him saying if it was his bro or not).
There was also another 240 with a wild bright blue interior and another cobalt blue 240 that had some mods that had been there last year.

Hey all:
Sorry I missed the show. Had too many obligations to become clear prior to leaving on Sunday. Sounds like a real good time. Kai...glad to hear the C70 made it's first show! Also happy to hear that people saw the effort you've put into it. Hope it paid-off some of those long hours and prep work.
Anyhow, I'm now in Redwood City, California. Setteling down and un-packing from a hell of a move. Hope to see a few of the West-coast shows now!
TTYL
Prospero

I thought it was a great show. The Saab and BMW sections were HUGE on Saturday. Many more older BMW's than I remember seeing last year, however, the Jaguar and Mini population seemed to be down. I should have some good pictures from Friday when it was sunny, but I didn't shoot much on Saturday except for the Volvo section.
I was wondering where Frank was with his B23E powered blue 1800. Maybe he brought something else?
Next year I think I'll just get a hotel room instead of driving back and forth everyday. But still, I think we made pretty good time.

I really wanted to also meet you and the much storied C70!!! I bet you got some great comments on it! Wel, perhaps at the next show or GTG!
Yeah, Todd made it, 1st time I also met him; I did not know who he was and as I was pickign up my registration papers here comes this guy [Todd] and says to me "hey, nice wagon you got!"...Although I do receive a lot of compliments on the car, he had that "grin"...I thanked him and as I exited the registration shack I saw his Red 945T parked right next to mine, shiny chrome wheels and all! I could not help but smile so I went back inside and introduced myself!
As far as another Open House...I think that we should send Volvo some petitions regarding that...If we all do it and other people do it, also from other websites and even members of VCOA, then Volvo Cars may as well get another one going...I was just up there [Rockleigh] for some training and what a beautiful area it is! One thing that surprised me though was the exceedingly large number of V70 T5s (owned by Volvo staff) that still had....snows on! WOW!
So, what do you guys think about the...petition? George? Perhaps you can make up an electronic form where we can all fill it, we can also let other people about it + VCOA...Then it would be easy to just e-mail them to Volvo Cars.
Yannis

Sorry, I couldn't make it. Yannis and I coulda car pooled . I had one of those other car events on Suday. Maybe next time we can meet. I know there was a strong Miata showing too, I would loved to have been there for that. Even if I could have come, I dan't know what I would have drove...Volvo...Miata...Volvo...Miata...Comfort...Convertible...I wouldn't have been able to decide, so it was best I couldn't come.

It was nice to see you all again, Kai the car looks ecen better in person. Yannis it was nice to meet you sorry I did not say farewell in person but I had to go, my wife was sick and I had to get her home, I came back and your car was there but you must have been looking around. I saw Todd at his car and then set off. I cut a little time off the drive home a little over 6hrs with a little over the speed limit, you know I did not want to get the car wet, and by some luck I beat each nasty cloud I saw. As far as Frank goes he had some trouble at the boarder, and was not let in, he tried for most of the day but no luck. He has told me they gave him a spot for next year since he did not use it this year.
See you again next year! Kai we must show those Saab's up next time, I think we should have launched an all out attack on them with the crew we had, it would have been quite the show on the road!
Sean
[This message has been edited by [email protected] (edited 05-24-2002).]

What sort of problem did he have at the border? Has it gotten more tough to cross over, or did he have a truck of merchandise with him that made it tough?

Mark really takes care of that car. He did some mad detailing the night before the show...well, more like the morning before. He started doing the detailing around 10 or so, didn't go to bed till 3 in the morning. You should be emotional.. I'll try to post some pictures of the C70 parked next to the 850 soon.
