Hey all,
Couldn't find any reference to anything like this in the archives, although an S60 owner in the S60 forum reports a similar problem. Just wanted to post the basics here as mine is an R, and then give the redirect to the active thread for anyone interested.
Basically, the car is a stock R with ~9K miles on it. It normally tracks straight and flat, just like it should. But once in a while, like maybe every fourth or fifth time I'm out, it will do this little quirk maybe once or twice. At low speeds only (so far) it will all of a sudden start pulling gently but persistently to the left or right, on generally flat and smooth roads. Holding the wheel it's not a problem but if you were to let go, it would pull you either into the next lane or onto the shoulder.
It's not tramlining, I know what that feels like. This feels much more linear and a product of something the car is doing, not a product of the road surface.
Initially I thought it might be a 4C issue, but the S60 owner experiencing the same thing does not have 4C, so I think that is out. I'm thinking maybe a brake issue, but I'm also having the axle spline clicking issue right now, don't know if they're connected. Also, the S60 owner's car is 2 weeks old and brand new, so it shouldn't be a worn part at fault, although you never know.
Servicing for the axle spline is this week, will have them check the front end over and check back.
Here is the other thread if anyone is interested.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...98522
gb

Re: Car pulls to the left or right intermittently at low speeds (grimmbob)

How bad is the pulling? It sounds like it might just be an alignment issue, or maybe you have an out of balance wheel.

I agree, alignment is likely the problem... Too much toe-out could be the culprit... Can make the car move left or right on seemingly perfect surface..

Re: Car pulls to the left or right intermittently at low speeds (dugums)

I once had a wheel bearing going out (that was not loud at all) and I had the exact same thing happening to me. Once the wheel bearing was howling I brought the car in and had it fixed. I immediately noticed that the strange pulling was gone. Maybe it was the allignment ot the bearing. Maybe the combo? Have them check your bearings and allignment. Rick

Not enough to make the wheel difficult to hold at all even if you're just holding it lightly, but enough so that if you were to actually let go it would veer slightly.
Again, it is very intermittent, not that frequent. This makes it hard to reproduce, so I don't know what the service guys will do about it. But thanks for the advice all, I will have them check bearings and alignment when I bring it in this week.
gb
