Re: Car porn (Johann)

Hey, I have already seen that car....
It was last year on the parkinglot in Essen (Germany) at the Motorshow!
I recognized it by the Dutch licence plates and the dual exhaust and the 19" ACE wheels.
Very nice car indeed... and when it's cleaned even more nice

Re: Car porn (Johann)

LOL~! Nice..
Care to provide us the list of his mods?
I was pretty impressed with one of the pics, thought he got some gun powder wheels....but it was just brake dust.
I think those wheels would look nice if they were finish in different color~!
Not that I'm a big fan of dual exhaust for a 5 cylinder, but is the 2nd one real? Meaning..is there another muffler in front of it, or it's just a tip extending from the other muffler? Couldn't really see clearly if he did anything to the rear bumper to fit the extra exhaust tip.

Re: Car porn (Johann)

Those are 19"s? Wow looks kind small on our car. I thought they would stand out more. Dunno about the dual exhaust. I think it looks cool (I'm looking into it right now) but I'm not too fond of the tip. Also, is it a fully functional one? We don't have a lot of room on the right side of the car since it has to pass the fuel tank.

Re: Car porn (The_one_n_only)

The right tip comes from the left just before the muffler.
The right does NOT have a muffler.
Not a really nice solution.
The right side of the bumper was cut also.
This car is chipped, a very neat strong chip, and not much more.
I believe it ran custom cams for a while but not anymore.
Not 100% sure if it was this car though.
It's an AT and the guy is driving it 175 MPh on tacho on a VERY regular basis making a lot of miles with it.
The brakes are AP 6 pod with 330 rotors, he was there to see if 355 or 380 would fit within the rims.
He had a quote on AP 8 pod racing spec calipers but the price was outragous.
AT, AP and very high speed don't go well together according the driver.
The brakes start vibrating very fast.
As I understood the car is very strong, good provided torque at the right places for high speed autobahn use but not overly powered.
The AT doesn't allow much more tweaking.

Re: Car porn (Johann)

Hey Johann,
If you can get more info on his AP system, it'd be much appreciated. Hey even 330mm will do for me. But I'm really hoping to get the ~355 size.
Got any idea where I can find this kit?

Re: Car porn (The_one_n_only)

There's a standard 6 pod 330 dia. kit for Volvo available at AP.
Price is near €3000, dollar is almost 1:1.
I guess any AP dealer could provde you with that kit.
I do not have any part numbers.
the 355 won't go with your new wheels.
The rotor has a thickness of 38 mm from what I recall which means that rotor has to be mounted 4 mm further to the outside because there's no room on the inside.
Add to that the wider calipers and you run in to your rim because the spokes bend inward.
You need 19" flat surface rims to get enough clearance.

Re: Car porn (Johann)

Wow...so almost $3K for the AP kit, not sure if that will work $700 better than my brembo kit.
Speaking of not able to fit the other brake kit....I'm starting to wonder if I'd be able to fit my new wheels this time around. 38mm offset 18x8.5. I might even need some thicker spacer to clear the calipers...any suggestion?
I wonder if fender rolling will be needed...plus with the new KW kit and all, might be too low and too close for comfort.

Re: Car porn (The_one_n_only)

According the C70 guy at Rica the AP's were a lot better as the Brembo's, even better compared to the older 4 pod calipers.
I used the 4 pods and the drilled rotors on my old V70 but I found them to be very noisy.
What diameter are the Brembo's?
About the KW's, did you receive them already?
I ordered 18 x 7.5 ET38 for the 850 with a 225/35-18 Pirelli P7000 "reinforced" tire on it (Price decision) to make sure I have enough clearance with the KW kit.

Re: Car porn (Johann)

Interesting, I would have to call around and find out anyone in the States are AP distributor other than $tealin'.
Why are you asking KW? Want to buy them for your S60? The KW should be ready in another week or so, I don't remember the exact date. Isn't Koni good enough and a lot cheaper?
So, I wonder if that extra 1 inch wider wheel will fit under the C70...isn't C70 supposedly made with more space in the wheel well? Man..these kinda information you would expect an expensive wheel company would know better than you do.

There is no room to squeeze a pipe between the suspension and the fuel tank (I just came back from my dealer). We can always have it for looks but that would look ghey...

I thought it's that purple color. Good thing I didn't get one when I first bought the car.

Re: Car porn (The_one_n_only)

kai, here's the link for all the distributors of AP racing brakes for the US.
http://www.apracing.com/info/stockists.asp
I called Brake-pros.com and they said that they don't bring the AP kit to the US due to fitment issues and goverment restrictions. And if you still want them you have agree that if some thing happens they are not liable.
Sounds bogus to me but, let me know if you can hook up with a 330mm kit, I know that Hi-Spec makes a 335x32mm with a 4 piston caliper in the UK for the 850 Volvo, not sure about the C70 and they make a 6 piston caliper with a 355mm rotor, now that's huge.
Let me know, what you find.
Ralph.

[Modified by BSR_rckt, 7:12 AM 12-6-2002]

Re: Car porn (The_one_n_only)

According to Hi Spec, I can fit the 335mm kit on my R with 17" wheels and the spacer is built into the hat. Not bad, all you have to do is get longer studs.
I emailed them for more information, I'll keep you posted.
Ralph.
