After years of reading, and admiring all your knowledge, I'm going to ask a question and hope the experts don't feel like punishing the newbie for not already knowing everything they know (shocking, how we're not all already experts... ) So, here goes: My elderly father just purchased a 2008 V50 T5 AWD, and it does not have the integrated phone, nor a USB port. I know we can add the USB/Bluetooth aftermarket, but is there a way to add the Volvo equipment? In my adorable naiveté, I imagine it would be a new steering wheel, and then...? Swap out the panel and components? OK, begin your gentle ribbing now... And thanks in advance for lending out your considerable knowledge and expertise.

Sure. Give your local (or internet) Volvo parts dept the VIN and they should be able to set you up with the right kit. Mine is an early 2009 V50 that came with integrated hands free phone but neither USB or iPhone. My situation is a little different from father's but I seem to recall there being a kit that could add the phone feature as well. The install was pretty easy, mostly just disassembling a bunch of the interior parts. It was the first time I had worked on a Volvo and all worked out well. Good luck

It's not the cheapest way to get there. All together I think it cost around $400-$450ish. It's been a while.

I reread your post. I guess I overlooked or forgot your mention of the steering wheel. I have no idea what your Dad's wheel looks like. I imagine it has cruise control but nothing else (?). That may complicate this. It's certainly beyond the scope of what I had to do. I should add, after the wiring is installed I had to have the dealer program the car. I cannot recall what that cost us. We had other work done at the time so it was all lumped together. I don't know if you're dad needs USB/iPod as well as hands free phone, but, he may be better off picking up a hands free Bluetooth device. Certainly will be cheaper.

Checked with my Volvo specialist this morning, and Volvo no longer lists this accessory (package) on their site. So, any suggestions where to look? The steering wheel has everything except the answer/hang up button, so it would be a swap to get that button for the full integration experience

we may end up with aftermarket, but I want to try this option first. Thanks!

You could check with these guys. I've been buying all my factory stuff from them lately. Tim, if he's not too busy, is friendly and REALLY helpful. They're prices are a lot better than my local dealer too. You can search for the kits yourself or just call them (I suggest midmorning).
