Well I installed Kelly's CAI kit on Saturday, didnt really drive much til today. I have to say either I'm crazy or the car feels more responsive. Remember I have the GT trans, I hit the gas and normally wait what feels like an eternity for the boost to kick in. With the CAI, the turbo spools MUCH faster, like right now. Mid range is awesome too. This is the ONLY mod on the car at this point. Anyway, I'm digging the mod.

Re: Call me crazy, CAI mod bumps seat dyno. (nikhsub11)

You're crazy.

There just is no PROOF that vacuum condition in stock air box is bad for performance. No PROOF that providing turbo air it is trying to pull will increase perfomance. Just because it makes sense, doesn't mean you should do it.

Stop with your foolishness.

The sound alone always "feels" faster

No, really, it's the sound.
This 00 R I'm selling has a CAI and an ipd exhaust, stock otherwise. This sucker feels very fast. Whether it is or not I have no idea.
ANother example is the GS400 I just bought my wife.
Kid who delivers it says, "what does this have, an intake"?
Anyhow, I get in and under full throttle it has this growl
To make a long story short the air box wasn't fastened and it was getting about 2" of direct air.
Fastened it securely and it got all quiet and I swear it lost power.
It didn't but it FEELS that way

Put her on the dyno, it is the only way to be sure

Actually, a dyno will not be conclusive unless it happens to be in a
wind tunnel.

Improving intake air volume and density will help with spool and
therefore will be more responsive. Add a fatter turbo inlet pipe
will do even better to improve this.

I think a Dynojet will show this behavior. A load Dyno doesn't show any gains when a filter is changed just like that.

does the DIY CAI make the car sound any different? i figured that if the airbox lid is still securely fastened, you wouldn't be able to hear anything...

If you have your window down, and a BMC/JR, you can definitely hear air getting sucked in. Makes turbo a little louder as well IMO.

With window up, you can hear a little, but engine/exhaust drown it out.
