They didn't run a whole lot of races, so their costs couldn't have been so great that reallocating the funds will make that much of a difference for a company the size of GM.

That kind of blows. The LMP 900 class may suffer significantly in ALMS because of this. Rumors are that Audi will pull factory backing after this year and lease out the cars to privateers like Bobby Rahal next year. However, they may not have much competition in that class if no one continues to develop cars on that level. It's a shame. Caddy is regaining momentum, and the racing program simply is icing on the cake. It shouldn't be an either/or situation when you talk about performance models.

ALMS has a real problem here. Soon the LMP900 class is going to look like the Porsche Cup series if Audi starts leasing the R8s out.
I believe this really has more to do with GM not wanting to invest the $ necessary to compete with Audi. I can't believe that they thought they would topple the R8s without really digging in. The C5Rs didn't win right out of the box, they stuck with it and now they win all of the time.
Even if they come back with a CTS in the Speedvision series, it won't have the same effect as the LMP car would have for their maketing program.
[This message has been edited by Carl Sims (edited 08-14-2002).]

Seems Cadilliac is going to bless a CTS entry in ALMS or the Speedvision series and Audi will show Bentley more love next year.
I really like the looks of the Bentley LMP car, whether they can catch up with the R8s in one year is doubtful, IMO.
I thnk the CTS would be a better fit in the World Challenge series that ALMS GT. For marketing purposes anyway.

Well the current rumors are that Joest is going to Bentley, although the current rumors also said Rahal was buying the R8s up until VERY recently. Now it seems Rahal will be doing a Ford Racing factory backed CART team.
