thanks, that'll get me started. Wonder if I will need EPA approval to dispose of that toxic thing?

Hi,
Look here for a detailed description on how to remove the cabin filter (photographs included):
http://www.volvoxc.com/resourc...moval/
Goog luck,
Willy

Yeah, I've seen that but it looks a lot different than my lowly V70. Need to hurry, my kids are passing out. The paint is peeling. My fire alarm went off. Buzzards are circling.

Hmm, the only explanation I can find right now is that there are two filters, the regular one and one with active carbon that (I assume) onlyt comes with the Air Quality System. I think they have to be located in a different slot (but in the same location).
Willy
yes they are in the same spot. when you remove the black panel, you will see a wide slot and a narrow slot.

JRL - what a detailed, articulate, comprehensive, helpful response!
Methinks if the lad had interest in one of your cars, you'd perchance alot him more of your precious wisdom?
Now he knows exactly how to perform the necessary filter change.
