Picked one of those el-cheapo ($85 plus shipping) stut braces on ebay for the 1999 C70 convertible, all I can say is WOW what an improvement in cowl shake and shimmy reduction in going over bumps and divits in the road. I would highly recommend installing one (if the el-cheapo helps this much I wonder how the more expensive units would improve things?). http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

This may be a stupid question: whats the difference between a strut brace and anti-sway bars? can both be installed at the same time?

Strutbrace is on top of the struts (veerpootbrug), swaybars are attached under the car to the suspension (stabilisatorstangen), they are already there but you can replace them by thicker ones...

And yes you can put both on them.

Re: C70 Strut Brace (BenES)

Here is then ebay link for these if anyone is interested:

They are pretty easy to install, just remove two of the upper strut mounting nuts, then put the brace on and reinstall the nuts, then snug up the brace pivot bolts, (it's a little difficult to get a hex wrench in the bolt head due to closeness of the cowl, but other than that it went okay).

I've recently installed Volvo's own one onto mine, one of the better quality ones IMO. I guess it cost the equivalent of $100

I didn't fit it, got the local dealer to do it for me for free, but don't you have to make sure it's at the right settings with a torque-wrench or something ?

The Volvo factory braces retail for $235 at the average Volvo dealer in the US. I was able to purchase one from Keystone Volvo in Pennsylvania for $185. Great people to do business with! IPD also sells this 'cheapo' strut brace and I don't recommend it as it attaches to only two of the three studs on each strut mount.

I have put the Volvo brace in 3 cars now. The OMP may look a bit nicer but the size and quality of the OEM brace is the same and is sort of cool with the Volvo stamp on it.
These (all) will work with RHD and LHD cars

Works great if jack up car front end so wheels off ground, then tighten nuts, then lower. Sorta pre-tensions... Check instructions for your bar, may very...

I think you're talking about the swaybar....ummmm, a different bar. Never heard of pre-tensioning a upper strut tower bar or brace with car lifted off its wheels.

None of them come with a strut brace, although they do all come with a swaybar.

i have the chrome one from eBay on my S70....actually more of a "for looks" item than a "real" strut brace. You may want to check http://www.ipduas.com for one, but also do a google for OMP and you'll find theirs...it's suppose to be the best. Volvo's own is a good choice as well, but more expensive. Others will chime in I'm sure.

Re: C70 Strut Brace (C70convert)

Hi, I have not seen a Strut Brace on Ebay:

[http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Brand-New-in-box-Volvo-850-V-S-C-70-Strut-Tower-Brace_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33591QQihZ003QQitemZ130001091559QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW]

for my '01 C70 Convertible; in fact, the silver one that was on Ebay was only for up to 2000 C70s.

I DO, however, see a "Volvo C70 Floor Strut Bar " for my car:

Has anyone ever used on 'dese 'dem 'dar 'thangs?!?
