Heard a rumor from the Volvo Personal Shopper folks that the C70 may not be back for the 2010 model year. Anyone else hear this? I am going to the Javits Center for a meeting tomorrow and will be sure to find out for certain.

Re: C70 done? (gabepv544)

For some reason, I find that hard to believe. IIRC, it's getting a powerboost and slight styling change.

Re: C70 done? (VolvoMax)

Well I asked the question at the meeting and as Max said it is untrue. There will be a facelift/redesign coming though for the C30 and C70.

My old C70 feels more high-end.

Re: (C70drvr)

Well Volvo are building the 300bhp engine for the new Focus RS, Ford have made that a wider track than the ST's with their patented Revoknuckle, torque steer mitigating front suspension, all the unique RS suspension components would likely go on the fat C70 as I would say it has the width already.
There again Volvo have it all on their soon to be launched C30R anyway, so what odds on a 300bhp plus 'proper' C70R. Ford have held back on their software callibrations for the much strengthened Volvo/RS engine so Volvo could likely go 300 plus out of the box
What about a carbon fibre fixed roof to cut out the weight of the present contraption with an elegantly drawn 'roll cage' to strengthen the chassis....
Regards, Don.
hi,
werent the prototype C30Rs running 350bhp and Haldex 4WD? Info from Lex Kerresmakers in an interview about the XC60.
The RS engines are built in Skovde. Is the RS using Ford's own engine management system or the one volvo uses (bosch?)?
I thought volvo did the R&D hardware for the RS engine but also the software mapping?
RS uses R internals (pistons/con rods). Modified ports in head? Ford mentions an "uprated headgasket" a lot in press releases. What is the deal with that? Were there issues with the S60R/V70R headgasket?
I hear the C30R is coming this year? Launched before the facelift of the C30?
look forward to hearing from you

C30R price.

The strong rumour here in the UK is the C30R will be priced a shade under £30,000, much against the advice given by UK dealer principles that the market wont support that price.
Shades of Volvo's greedy and flawed pricing of the old S60R and V70Rs.
Regards, Don.

Volvo designed and built 'RS' engine.

There are some differences between this engine and the earlier RNCT T5's.
The main one being that to attend to the weakness in the earlier blocks, the liners are plasma coated with aluminium which forms a strong bond with them. When the molten alluminium is poured it melt with that ally. coating. The resulting bonds between iron liner, plasma coated ally. and alluminium block give all the strength needed to support much higher temperatures and pressures. Interesting to know if this block is solely for the RS and C30R or will it be in MY '10 T5/STs.
Apparently Nissan are using this same process with their new Skyline engines which allows the iron liner to be under 1mm thick.
I believe the old R pistons and rods are in the 'RS' engine together with at least one of that engine's cams.
The RS runs a larger KKK turbo of similar design to those on the smaller Volvo T5s together with larger intercooler, rad., and inlet tract with similar 'cone in box' filtering as the old Rs, some attention was apparently given to get some more cooling air arround the RS engine. Stronger engine mounts also feature. The downpipe being the same but with one cat block removed. And the very same Quaife diff that is available in the aftermarket for the M66 box, but machined internally to accept the fatter splines of stronger driveshafts.
The RS engine is controlled by the same ME9 computer as the small Volvo T5s and the Focus ST but Ford continue to write their own unique software.
Regards, Don.

a shade under £30k and the Focus RS is £25k.
The C30R nor the RS arent volume cars anyway. People willing to pay £25k for a Ford in the UK but not a shade more to have a Volvo?? volvo is a better brand. ford shouts 'cheap' performance car and is in no way premium
