Hello,

A buddy of mine has a 98' C70 LT and was wondering if he could turn the boost up a bit? He doesn't have a boost gauge yet, he's planning on getting one. What could he turn it up to? What do C70's normally run at? He's been wanting to put a little power in his car. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: C70 Boost Question (bag3lbit3s)

Hey mike, I'm also in Torrance

he has a convertible model? I'm not sure how much boost the LT runs probably around 7 or so, but it would be safest to get the car's ECU reprogrammed. Thats assuming hes not really looking into modding it a lot and just want a little more power... anyway hope that helps

Re: C70 Boost Question (volvoboi24)

Ah...stupid me I meant HT. It's a great car, pretty quick. Is the HT running at a different pressure than the LT? Could he just turn the boost up a tad instead of getting a reprogrammed ecu? Because those suckers aren't cheap.

Re: C70 Boost Question (bag3lbit3s)

Yes, the HPT runs more boost, and has a larger turbo than the LPT... you could get a manual boost controller... raise the boost a few lbs, but you would be in danger of blowing your engine...

Re: C70 Boost Question (volvoboi24)

I've never found any data on boost levels with the LPT and HPT. Since we have no factory boost gauge (no fun!), I can't tell.

Anyone know what the stock boost limits are? Does the controller allow temporary excursions to higher pressures under certain conditions?

Re: C70 Boost Question (flat_six)

When my car was stock I was boosting about 10PSI (all the 2.3 liter HPT models). The MBC (manual boost controller) can adjust boost from 0-whatever the controller is able to do.

You'll get higher boost depending on the physical capabilities of the turbo (the amount of exhaust gas available to compress air) and the amount of throttle you give... now if you get a fancy one you can even adjust boost depending on the engine RPM.
