Hey guys!

I have wanted a c70 pretty much ever since I bought my first s70! I am currently looking for a project C70 that I can develop into a fun toy. I have come across one that i am seriously interested in, but not sure what to look out for when purchasing one of these. This one is a 2001 vert that has 120k and a bad engine knock (needs a motor). It seems like a good project however I am concerned by two things. The whole car has been painted to like a silver goldish color, and I am afraid that will effect resale value if I ever sell it (it has a clean title though) and the convertible top seems to be sagging in badly near the back window (is this common or will I need a new top?) If I need a new top, what kind of ordeal will it be for me to put a new one in?

Thanks for the comments/advice!

sagging rear glass is a sign of a top not taken care of. the top is a nice contraption. there are plenty of micro switches that stop it from opening and closing. i had two of them just deteriorate into pieces a few weeks after i got mine causing the top to not open. $35 each and 2 days later i was cool. Vert is NOT a cool project car. its a EXPENSIVE project to get the top working if it does break if you dont know how to fix it.

If it needs a new motor and top it had be better be pretty cheap. Replacing the entire top is not cheap. How much are looking to spend and what are your plans for the car? Major mods or just something fun to drive?

Sounds like I should shy away from this on :(

Unfortunately, I am not interested in a coupe, I want a vert.

You should drive in a vert before you set your heart on it. Familiar with the concept of scuttle shake?

It's pretty bad in these cars. Not bad enough for me to not drive one, but kind of embarassing really. It doesn't seem to affect the handling or performance that much, mine stuck to the road really well. But if you have a tire out of balance, expect the whole front of the car to jiggle in sync.

I did the same thing, and I say get it cheap and go for it. I had a s70 for years and always wanted the convertible. I found one that the second owner let a bad machanic do the timingbelt and it needed a motor. btw no diffefence between b5244t and t3. took me a few months to figure out its a change they made is to the turbo. I enjoy driving it so much, there are some things that will cost you, but stay in touch with forums and owners manual on how to manually raise and lower the top if it stops working. The only thing big that i would change about my purchase is to find a manual trans.
