Hi, appreciate any help I can get here please.
We have replaced the fuel pump assembly on my 2007 C30 but still have issues with the car dying so need to replace the PEM / Fuel Pump Module.
I have been told that this must be replaced along with the cable lengths attached to it. Is this correct or can just the PEM be unclipped and replaced?
And if looking for a second hand part (the Volvo dealer has quoted over $1000) how do I ensure it is compatible?
Thanks

Thanks Woodleigh, no I'm not 100% sure. I took the car in to the mechanic because the fuel pump was noisy and the car stopped when idling at an intersection. He replaced the fuel pump assembly (integrated fuel filter) but the issue is still there. He has said PEM but has had my car for 4 months and is doing nothing on it so looking to fix it myself. I don't have diagnostic equipment so PEM was my first approach. Happy to replace the Fuel Pressure sensor first and then see if the issue persists - looks to be about a $200 part in New Zealand. Thanks.

I am curious why the mechanic says that the PEM/module needs to be replaced. not saying it isn't possible but I feel that it is more unlikely than other regular problem parts. (atleast here in NA).

but yeah, try the FPS, if that doesn't work then see what codes actual say. if no codes then... we will go from there.

You may have a blocked fuel filter causing the loud fuel pump noise. Replace the fuel filter if you have one. Ck the old filter inlet for dirty fuel/trash ect. Replace the FPR as mentioned. The fuel pump duty cycle needs to be monitored. It should be around 35% +/- 5%. The FPR circuit board solder joints will crack, open up and send faulty info to the ECM. There is another ongoing post here with high fuel pump duty cycle. The tank has trash in it and restriction in the fuel filter. The ECM is sending higher PEM duty cycle to maintain fuel pressure due to the filter blockage and trash in the tank. The higher duty cycle is above spec so the ECM sets the code. It takes time to understand how the various systems work. A set code does not always mean a failed part. Below is the fuel filter pic.
