Re: c30 lip conversion update? (SDS40)

LOL, is this aimed at my C30 lip project? Or someone elses? It is going along slowly, have a new mold maker getting me a quote in the next day or so, if it is reasonable and I can scrape the money together they can get me the molds within a week after dropping off the parts and I can startin hammering out the copies. One man project, taking a lot longer than I would like.
I still have to take the original moldmaker to court to get a refund of the money and supplies I gave him to do it for me, I'm out around $1k from him...my wallet is hurting and school is starting up soon so I have to pay tuition.
It will be worth the wait. Check the Seatte GTG pics for a sneak peak at the general shape of the wings of the conversion process, it doesn't give justice though: the real things look amazing!
Here is a pic from the GTG, the wings are covered in gorilla tape because the gel coat was messed up thanks to Seattle weather:

Re: (SDS40)

There will be the option of the regular middle piece which makes it appear like the original one piece design, and another option with a CF splitter that has about an inch or so open space above it between the bumper piece. It will look super good. I actually have one of those already made as a prototype.

Yeah, that way people can have fiberglass wings and CF splitter, as the fiberglass would take hits better, and be cheaper/easier to fix/replace if needed.

Re: c30 lip conversion update? (Kallvin22)

Yeah, I plan on shipping the fiberglass ones primed, ready for paint, unless the buyer specifies otherwise. CF I would presume people want left naked, but that can be primed as well. It might add to the wait time, depending on my paint guy's timeframe.

Re: c30 lip conversion update? (40 Rouge)

Well, it is going very slowly due to lack of funds for the $$$$$$$ molds. But on a bright note I am having papers served to the idiot moldmaker who took over $1k worth of pay and supplies and never fulfilled his part. The amazing part is he just got picked up and thrown in jail for something else and won't be getting out before I can have his papers served. Karma...
I am hoping to have the molds paid for within the next few weeks using some of my grant/loan money. After that it is just hammering them out. One man team that is broke can't move too fast...

Re: c30 lip conversion update? (coolin)

It actually would've worked if I wanted to take the time, but decided that particular kit was more hassle then it was worth. I have the sideskirts still so I might convert them to fit, but who knows. The mazda 3 is very closely shaped, and if the body kit were PU or another plastic it could be heat treated and molded to fit better. The kit I had was fiberglass though and it is messy to work with.

I was just curious because every time I wash my car or look at it, I picture a beautiful blue lip with a carbon splitter and I get more and more anxious. Thanks man.

Re: c30 lip conversion update? (40 Rouge)

No problem. I am really getting excited for this coming semester as I will have access to the super expensive equipment again, and I might be able to do the CF splitters via prepreg CF instead of wet layup.
I probably need to keep everyone updated more on the project, its got some good progress going, just not physical.
