Well, we (Matt and I) were bored yesterday, so I decided to do the rain gutter conversion.
Okay okay..not really a conversion, we just simply ripped the ugly chrome/plastic trim out. I think it looks a lot nice, I'll take few pics next time.
Yeah....I also did the clear corner lense conversion.

Nah...I just simply pulled out that ugly orange reflector thingy that's in the corner lense.

What, were you guys spying on me, or something? I was cleaning up my car a little on Tuesday and I took off the rear most piece (c-pillar to trunk). Then yesterday, I finished the job and cleaned up the stained areas that had been hidden behind the trim. Looks MUCH better w/o that trim. I also replaced the white c-pillar trim with old style black trim from a Canadian GT. Looks pretty good.
That center piece on either side was a major PITA, but the rest was easy.

I was trying not to destroy them, and I think I could probably put them back on if I wanted to. I just didn't know if I'd find rust, primer, etc., under the trim.

I just simply ripped them out since the part on the C Pillar looks pretty clean. I don't think I would shed a tear even if I find rust under the trim. At this point, no chrome is better than anything.

Yeah...it was actually very stimulatiing! Just ripping the trim off without care or regard for life and limb! Man, that's what I call stress relief!
Prospero

Wow guys, just tear it apart eh! I'd like to see what Kai's and Micheal's cars look like now...may have to do that to my blue one. Of course, underneath that it will be the ugly ass brown that the car was orignally...oh well. I wanna see it first.
The Bertone is pretty much all tuned...up and running anyway. Got a sweet short shifter hooked up, it's really nice. Very crisp shifts. Too bad your 240 is an auto, Kai
When's the next GTG? I'd like to hang out some more...maybe we could have one at my shop and do small stuff, if anyone had any ideas about what we could do that'd be sweet.
Rob

Rob, you should definitely pull off the trim. Looks much better. I need to touch up some paint chips, but otherwise it's pretty clean. My only problem is that the previous owners had the left rear (currently dented) quarter panel repainted, and now it's flaking off in some spots. The painter just taped over the gutter trim and sprayed away, so now I've got more overspray/flaking showing than before, but it's not too obvious.
Kai-the-organizer, let us know when the next great meeting of Volvos will occur. This weekend, next weekend, or sometime in between. After the 15/16 weekend, it will surely be cold, and I'm bet some people will be out of town.

Uhm...hate to bug you Kai while taking your #2, but...I'm ready for the next GTG as well.
I also had a few thoughts about what can be done at the next GTG...
Maybe we can all get the white gauges from IPD and install them...or maybe convert the lighting to LEDs? (Or even both) I have looked at my 240 and it seems like it will be easy and pretty cheap. I will be doing a red and yellow scheme. (because I have all of the LEDs around the house and they are the cheapest to buy)
Also, just hang out and talk about car stuff will be kinda fun. I also want to do the manual tranny upgrade, and have a donor car already. I just need to see what all will be involved.
So guys...when are you all free? I expect to have my 240 back on the road tonight. (long story, but all my fault!) Maybe a GTG this weekend?
Prospero

I pulled off my gutter 'trim' a few years back. The original gutter trim on my '83 was just a couple crimped pieces of stainless trim wrapped skin tight around the gutter. That was a real PITA to get off. Then I pulled the 'GL' style trim off my wife's rusted out 240, blacked it out, and put it on. It's the thicker style, with the XL window scraper/door trim. It looks pretty clean as a whole. I was glad to get rid of the old rear quarter window surrounds as well, since they rattled at 80MPH+.
There was a discussion about window trim removal on the BB a while back, and the idea of filling the gutters was raised. That would look pretty smooth, too.

There was a guy at the t-bricks message board who had a set of IPD white gauge faces for sale. I almost bought them, but I couldn't justify gauge faces when my tach doesn't even work (I need to replace the cluster housing, not the tach).

quote:
I also want to do the manual tranny upgrade, and have a donor car already. I've got a print out from the Brickboard from someone who did this swap, and it seems to have a thorough parts list, as well as a brief explanation. I can make a copy of it for you before the next GTG.

quote:
So guys...when are you all free? I know Prospero/Matt has time this weekend, and was planning on working on his 240. Let's see if Rob comes online and reply. It'd be nice if we can use his shop for few hours on Sat. to get some work done.
Do something guys....I'll be checking back the forum tonight. I'll try to find Rob on AIM, too.
Wonder if Mr. Webmaster will have time to meet up, so we can finally check out his 240.
