Re: Buying V70 on friday WHAT TO LOOK FOR? problematic areas? (138)

my 98 sedan had stress fractures on the coolant tank (first inspection missed that, had to pay for it later) and one worn out upper strut mount (replaced by seller prior to sale) when I got it at 119k in early 2005. The lower engine mounts needed to be replaced shortly after, only reason the upper didn't is because it had been replaced w/ an IPD aftermarket. Like JRL said, check ALL the switches, especially the windows - I found a bad one that I had the seller replace. Check the radio display backlight, make sure that works... the button backlights are easy to replace, the display is not.
Listen for funny bearing noises from under the battery immediately after a *cold* start, my secondary air pump went out after the valve let water collect in it -- see this recent thread for more info: http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=61889
Other than that.. the usual... service records are your friend, check oil condition, etc, etc.
