Buying Advice Please: 2019 XC90 Momentum T5 AWD - $50,940 (Gothenburg Delivery)

Hey guys, I would really value your opinion!

I'm an Army DoD employee in Germany, so I get to take advantage of Volvo's overseas offers and delivery.

Here are the full specifications from Volvo's configuration page: https://www.volvocars.com/configuration/BGPDZAP

It's the base model with AWD, Metallic Paint (Denim Blue), Black Leather interior, Multimedia Package (Nav + HK Sound), Advanced Package (Heads Up Display) Heated Seats (front/rear) and Steering Wheel, 2nd Row Booster Seat, POLESTAR Engine software Mod (Take the T5 Torque up to T6 lvl, 295 lb/ft), Side Window Sun Curtains

I am usually not interested in the base model of any vehicle, but the 2019 Volvo has really included a lot of nice toys that use to cost extra, making it a compelling choice for a great price, compared with BMW and Audi. I really couldn't see any reason to go with the Inscription, since there was nothing that the Inscription had that I wanted or valued.

For $50,940 I think I'm getting a lot of car for the money. I have test driven both the T5 and T6, and of course agree that the T6 is more fun with the higher power, but I'm really just looking for a family hauler that will move us around in great comfort and security. With the slower speed I might actually avoid some of the speeding tickets I've been getting here in Germany! :p

I also save the $1200 delivery cost by picking it up at the factory in Gothenburg, which is kind of cool actually! The one-way airline ticket is only $150 and I figure it will cost about the same in gas to get back home (12 hour drive).

That's a great price, and I think you'll really love the car. Plus picking it up at the factory is a really cool experience. The Volvo Museum and factory tour are real highlights.

You might want to add the black headliner $200 and the VOC which free of cost

What color would the headliner be if not black? I ordered the Black Leather interior, wouldn't it be black as well? Volvo On Call (VOC) is not available because I'm buying a US Spec, and driving it in Germany. The subscription only works in the USA.

I recently drove a T5 loaner. Driving by myself (to commute) and with 6 people, with the way I use the xc90, it didn't feel noticeably less responsive under most conditions compared to my T6. I tried Dynamic, Comfort, and Eco in the beginning, and then mostly left it in Comfort. In that sense, I didn't feel that the T5 is underpowered. I'm sure polestar tune helps a bit.

My (also Denim Blue) Momentum+ with charcoal leather has the standard headliner. These pictures are a little underexposed due to sunlight, but should give you some idea:

Oh, I see! However, I kind of like the contrast of the lighter headliner with the dark seating. I feel like it would seem too dark in the car with all black. I only went with black leather because it's easy to keep clean with my messy family.

I have never regretted choosing the T5, and I will bet that you don't have any regrets, either. It is just a blast to drive. I am sure that the supercharger is nice, but the engine still has plenty of get up and go for mountain roads and freeways. Plus, like you, it meant that I was able to afford the extra bells and whistles I wanted, versus a base T6 for the same price.

Thanks! Yes, the T5 felt like plenty of power for my needs. I'm very curious if the Polestar tune will be noticeable :)
I actually test drove the T5 and T6 back to back today, and was impressed with the response of the turbo on the T5. When I got into the T6 right afterwards, I felt like the Supercharger was really slow to kick in. When I floored it nothing happened for what felt like a full second, and then it hit all at once, but unevenly and the car jerked forward violently. It was not linear like the T5, and felt out of control. My current daily driver is a 2017 BMW X1, which has a magnificent engine and turbo with zero lag, so it was really a sharp contrast.

If you are in Germany you might consider the d5 instead of t5. Better performance and much better mpg/range. However if you are on a time limited contract and will bring the car back home to us I guess a d5 makes no sense.

On the backside a d5 costs as a t6...

Yes, I actually considered the D5, but it was about $20,000 more due to the exchange rate. Hard to justify $20k just for a better engine :)
