Are there any bumper guards we can get for S70's? I know they generally look bad, but so does bumper damage.
My S70 is going to the body shop next week for the 3rd time in 6 weeks. People in this po-dunk rathole town can not drive! 7 Weeks ago someone backed into my car with a trailer hitch. Plus the rear bumper had the corners rubbed off it from the previous owner. So I had it all fixed up. Then I was rear ended in traffic, no major damage. Then I was hit by a plow truck and backed into in a parking lot all in the same day. I made an appointment to get the car painted again and ordered a tail light to replace the one the plow truck broke.
Before I got into the body shop, I was hit 5 more times! All in parking lots at my various clients. So monday before last I got my car back. all shiny and new looking again. Yesterday while working on a camera surveillance system for a client, I see his delivery guy hit my car trying to get out of the parking lot. Then he hit it again, then he PUSHED IT OUT OF HIS WAY with his car. Don't come and ask me to let him out, just ram it over and over. So I run out and he is gone. The owner of the business is making him pay for damages. Then last night I was hit again on the OTHER side of the rear bumper.
I plan to add a ball hitch to the center, so if I get hit dead on again, they will take the brunt of it, but I need something for the corners. I am tired of having to have the car painted..
Is there anything?
Thanks,
Randy the pissed off Volvo Owner

I came across this with a quick search: http://www.eurobumperguard.com....html
Your parking situation sounds very problematic. Maybe you should put some cameras in your car that take images every few seconds.

I've never seen any for the front end of these besides the driving light bracket.
If you're goin' for that "General Lee" look, you'll probably have to fab.
Just think light. I've been thinking about aluminum for some lights.
The upside is you can design it any way you wish! ( We'll want pics, of course... )
You pretty damn lucky to have seen that pinhead delivery guy! Good Show.
It sounds like you've got a pebble head magnet there. Bummer...
Maybe it's time for: http://www.drivecam.com/
Cool stuff! Video AND a 2 axis accelerometer. I think there's a GPS option, too.
Outta curiosity, what kind of CCTV are you working with?
I do a bit of that myself. Primarily Everfocus with some Luxon and IVC.

I have a (new) set of factory Volvo bumper strips for Gen 1 cars and wagons.
What these are are plastic rub strips that tape around the edges of the bumpers.
Depending on the color of your car, they're not all that bad looking.
About an inch and a half thick and about 15" long, they wrap around the edges of each bumper.
I never heard of them but an SS member has them on his V70.
I asked him about them and he gave me the PN's.
I don't think I will ever use them so if you want them I have to dig up the receipts and you can have them for what I paid (wholesale) for them.
Here's a pic of the left front, the rears look about the same.

JRL, that might be exactly what I need. I was trying to find like a steel cage for the rear corners, like I had on my truck, but that may be just enough to protect it and subtle enough that my wife won't [email protected]@t when she sees them Being a Nautic blue car, they will likely blend right in.
If you would check on that I would greatly appreciate it.
I have considered putting cameras and a carputer in the S70, but honestly... knowing the people in this town.. it would not do any good. They guy whom I have on tape hitting my car, seems to think he would rather go to jail than give me the $340 it will cost to repair the damages. I gave him the weekend to STRONGLY Think about it. I have also YET to get payment from the plow truck driver who took out my passenger side tail light, the metal under it and dented the fender.

I try to park the car way out of the way around here, but it spends all day in various parking lots and get s hit a lot. When I got it the corners were rubbed off the back bumper and every time I have them painted, someone rubs them off again. I think the car is cursed.
BEJinFbk,
As for what kind of CCTV system, this one was a PC based Skyview system that they had purchased several years ago. This client has this same system in all 5 of his restaurants and bars around town. It is about 5 years maybe 6 years old now I think. The one I was installing had been sitting in storage for when he expanded again. He still has 3 more sets, so I suspect he is planning on 3 more businesses in the future.
I do a little bit of everything up here. My main focus is on Active Directory Domain Administration, but I install and maintain CCTV systems, Home Automation, networking, network security, VAX administration and repair, printer service and repair, rackmount server installer and service, etc etc etc.. but the coolest of it all...
I am personally responsible for 4 Sewer Robots. I Installed and set up each of them and I maintain and upgrade them. One of my clients bought one of these about 4 years ago. They are little mobile, waterproof platforms with high end infra-red capable cameras. They use it to drive it thru the sewer pipes and inspect them for damage.
Well they could not get the first one to work right. The manufacturer sent down several of their best techs to diagnose the problem and no one could. So the owner called me... His computer tech It was the last day they had to win a 13 million dollar contract with a large city around here... no pressure. Turns out it was a bad security hasp.. took me 15 minutes to solve So I now I get to work with them all the time

Thanks,
Randy

Modified by ViriiGuy at 6:24 AM 4-4-2009

Sort of like the Invisible Fence for dogs, but to keep something out, not in.

I think Chilled Man has the right idea. Now to figure out how to get a tank to follow me everywhere I go!.
And BEJinFBK, My wife and I used to watch robot wars, looong before it was ever on TV. When it was being filmed in warehouses and displayed on the web. Back when the pizza box looking robot wihtt he arm was king. I forget his name now... But I often think.. these Sewerbots would be AWESOME at that! They can roll no matter how they are flipped, they weigh about 30 pounds and are made of some seriously tough parts!
But oh so expensive!
