Hello,
Before all of you jump me for being a BMW fan let me just say that the Volvo 850 Turbo wagon is one of my all-time favorite cars. I would buy one in less time than it takes for the turbo to spool up and lay a patch of rubber.
Volvo also has a darn-good racing history. I have the 1994 British Touring Car Championship in-car video and the Volvo Estates of Jan Lammers and Rickard Rydell (now driving a ProDrive Ferrari 550) did some good arse-kicking. It took some real big ones to race a wagon!
Well, anyway, one day I was watching Seinfeld and he is a big car fan. In this episode he is buying a car at a European-car dealer and in the background is a sweet poster. It's a TWR 850 Estate on 1 wheel (yes - one wheel) rounding a corner.
So you guys seem to be experts on all-things-Volvo. Where can I get one of these posters to hang on my den wall? Next to the BMW M3 GTR poster, perhaps?
Thanks,
Drew

Watch ebay. It's hard to find Volvo racing posters, and when you do find one, the bidding can get out of hand. I know someone who got a signed poster on ebay of a red 850 sedan that raced in the Austrailian Touring Car series. I bought a bumper sticker showing a similar 850 (red 854, car #6), signed by Jim Richards. There's some cool stuff out there, but you have to find it first.
One seller I've dealt with who has sold a lot of Volvo posters is ebay ID "john-jay-coen " from Germany. I've bought two posters from him, including this one:

You just missed this 24"x36" 855 BTCC poster that ended on Monday, but they are out there:

I noticed the 850 poster on Seinfeld too. I haven't seen that exact one before, but it was probably displayed in dealerships at that time, so they must be out there.
Good luck.

You just missed this 24"x36" 855 BTCC poster that ended on Monday, but they are out there:

THAT'S THE ONE! And I missed it?!? Murphy's Law I guess.
What's shipping like on a poster from Germany?
Thanks for your help!

The actual postage on the poster tube is 1900 (19DM?), which works out to about 9.50 euro, or about $8.30.
Is that poster above the exact one that was on Seinfeld? For some reason I was picturing a different shot of the car.

Under $15 is acceptable to me. That sounds pretty cheap.
I remember the Seinfeld episode exactly (I'm a bit of a junkie). He was buying a car from Puddy (Elaine's boyfriend) at a Saab/Volvo dealer and the poster was in the shot behind Jerry when he was in the showroom. It actually got a lot of coverage. I wonder if Jerry supplied the poster since he's a big car nut.
Hey Jerry - if you're reading this drop me a line on where you got it!
Thanks

I know there's a black S70 in a few scenes (like when Jerry calls Elaine on the pay phone), and I think the guy that stole George's twix was standing near a red 850 with the hood up. This was episode #159, "The Dealership" from 1/8/98. I'm watching it right now.

quote:
It actually got a lot of coverage.

Yeah, I just reviewed the tape and the poster that was on ebay is definitely the one. You can see it once when Elaine breaks up with Puddy in the "salesman only copy room", and again more clearly when George has the "candy lineup" in the same room.

I know he has a good collection of Porsches, not sure if he was ever into Volvo. Thought some car magazine mentioned once, he took the one of the first orders of the CTR2 back in 95.

Seinfeld junkie here as well! I watch it everday at 6:30 EST on FOX. There were a lot of Volvo's on that show and in one episode, Jerry actually drove a Volvo 960 as a rental car.
-Drew

He's driven quite a few BMWs in the past but you don't want to hear about Bimmers. He had the Skip Barber sticker on his refridgerator for almost every episode I think. And the picture of the Boxster showcar.
But for his family I think he would prefer an M5 wagon....

[This message has been edited by drewbmw (edited 03-13-2002).]
[This message has been edited by drewbmw (edited 03-13-2002).]

Check my comment on:
http://www.swedespeed.com/ubb/Forum14/HTML/000023.html
It takes a special kind of person to love a souped-up wagon. I wouldn't go that far with the body kit. My Ultimate wagon would be more of a sleeper. That's why I like the 850 T5 and R.
BTW, the "R" badge would definately have to go. I wouldn't want anyone thinking I had a VTEC engine under the hood.
As for the BMW guys...you have to understand that we have been denied a cool wagon in this country - except the low-volume 540i Touring. Now we have the E46 3-series to play with.

Can't exactly expect everyone to have their cars done tastefully. Some people like big rear spoilers on the FWD, some like lots stickers, and some just want to make their cars as subtle as possible. Just a matter of taste, I guess. If I were to build a show car, I still wouldn't r1ce it just because I desperately need others attention.
As for the bimmer 3 series wagons, can't comment much..haven't driven myself. But I know people aren't too crazy about the 3 series with the AWD system. Some said the car feels less balanced than its RWD models.
